They still are but have other things in the mix to keep it soft long term, they’re awesome for waterproofing leather gloves and boots. They maybe were beeswax a long time ago, but now they are horrible, sticky garbage. I use some store bought lube sticks or beeswax/tallow, depending on what the bullets are for.
I've done something similar in the past with softer bullet lube, you squish it into the lube grooves, roll it across wax paper/waxed butcher paper lightly, and then one or two sharp rolls will almost clean the lube off the bullet.I remember about 15 years ago talking to a guy who used it for reloading like 44 40, 4570 and he just squished it into the grooves with his fingers and he seemed to like it seemed to work for him and he did it for years

I have, when I first got my shiloh sharps 45-70Anyone ever try the modern yes I know Petroleum based wax toilet gaskets for cast lead bullets i.e. like 4570 etc. with smokeless Not black powder
That may have been when the rings were made out of actual waxOne of the best cast bullet lubes, Alberta Schuetzen Lube, which has been used to win many matches, uses wax toilet seal as one of it's many ingredients.
