I took my newly aquired arsenal refurbished Tokarev to the range the other day. While it functions just fine it shoots very low, about 12" @ 25 yards. Is there a rear sight that I can get to replace the current one? This is the only solution I can come up with as filing the frontt sight down would leave nothing left. If such a sight is available does anyone know of a source?

Cheers. Steve

When I first got my Tokarev I was shooting high. I found the sights to be very small and difficult for me as my eyes are not a s good as they used to be. After shooting it a bit more I found it was just me and my eyes and I am on target now.

Doubt if there are any rear sights in different heights available.
I'd just make a new rear sight. Probably easier than altering the existing one.

I have one of these guns. It's a gun you shoot for the fun of it, not because you have a hand held tack driver. To save yourself some time and money, just aim slightly higher rather than trying to look for a new sight or some kind of adjustment that will improve the accuracy. Enjoy it!

Is this a 9mm or 7.62x25 ?? The 7.62's tends to shoot low as they are a fast round.

If you can use a heavier & slower bullet it will hit higher. It stays in the barrel longer & because the gun is recoiling upwards it leaves the muzzle when it is pointing higher. You can adjust the point of impact with fixed sights by trying different ammo but 12" is a lot.

Good luck.

Interesting point Colin. I wonder at what distance they were sighted in.

I have a TT33 too, but didn't shoot it yet. Man I can't wait.

I was all over the target when first I got my Tokarev (7.62x25). I didn't touch the sights because the Czech ammunition was made for these guns. I concentrated on trigger control, trying not to make my hand move as I squeezed through twelve pounds of trigger.
Eventually I was hitting the target where I was aiming.
My improvement to the sights is nothing more than N.Y.C. Taxi Yellow (left over from my psychedelically painted Tok).
Now I see a yellow lower case letter ''i" and all I have to do is put the dot above the post. Oh and I also dipped a cleaning swab into some black matte spray paint and dabbed in onto the area of the front sight on either side of the yellow post.
Since the yellow nail polish was put on rather thickly, to protect it I applied a coat or two of Hard as Nails.

FWIW, my Norinco 213 was my most accurate pistol. I could blow off people whose pistols cost 15 times what mine did (I paid $89US for it in 1992). I surprised a lot of people with that pistol. I just got lucky with it, I guess.

Is the yellow paint a type of nail polish? I have never seen paint make a round blob like that.

And i assume Hard as Nails is purchased at the nail polish counter?

It is NYC Taxi Yellow nail polish. If put on as a big drip from the brush it will stay as a blob and dry that way. After an hour you can put the Hard As Nails nail polish cover on.

On the contrary, all my Norinco Tokarevs are very accurate; it just takes getting used to shooting it. The Soviet Tokarev rattles but is just as accurate.
I just think the design is sound.

Mine was Very accurate as well, I got them under a 2.5" group off hand at 25 yards.

Mine shoots low about 6" but then i could just file the front site a bit to correct. :D

BEST deal i can think of so far.

my canam special m213 is also ridiculously accurate

If it shoot low and front site is already as low as you can tolerate, change your site picture. Instead of making top of front sight level with top of rear, let the front sight stick up, so top of rear sight aas at the base of the front sight.

This is like the "flash" sight picture I use on action targets. I aim low, so i can see the target better, and let the front site stick up.
