Hey everyone, have been looking for an svt 40 firing pin for some time now ( last one died ). Called just about everywhere for a replacement without any luck, I do find a few sources in the states but they do not ship to canada. Called a few gunsmiths and was quoted about 100 to 150 to produce another. Anyone have the same problem? Any solutions? Does that seem like a high price? Help me...

I can make one for you if interested.

I am just going to explain that 100-150$ price range (which is actually pretty reasonable for a one off item) for a gunsmith (or machinist) to make one.

You need to have the tooling to make one, which is several thousand dollars right off the back (just a lathe would be needed in this case). Next you need the knowledge, which if you have the tooling you generally have. You also need the dimensions which involves either copying from one on hand or searching to find the proper dimensions to actually make it. Then you need the proper steel to make it, there may or may not be a heat treating process involved. Finally you actually have to produce the item which may take a couple hours depending (and provided there is no screw ups). Since they are only making one of them there is no ability to reduce costs as without any mass production you are unable to get to the cheap rates you find on most commercial items.

I don't have any solution for your problem but Gewehr76 offering to make one would likely be the best bet.
