I'm looking for a shotgun and the bullpups have caught my eye as well as the Mark 12 Derya... Both nice looking units.

The Hurricane FD-12 is ###y as hell... I like the bullpup platform but I wonder which would be the most practical overall.

Anyone have experience with either of these please share it.

I am having a helluva time making up my mind.

Thanks,

Garbal.

I was looking at them as well. Some had early reliability issues so I have since gone back to what I know... pumps. Never had an issue with one. Good look on your choice.

I have an FD12 and quite like it. Trigger is pretty awful but to some extent it can be improved. I like that it's a lot shorter, obviously. It's been reliable so far with the odd fail to eject.

IMO, pumps are fun to just go shootin' stuff with, but if survival is at stake, I'd rather have a good semiauto.

I've seen too many top tier shooters, to include the likes of Jerry Michulek and Louis Awerbuck, manage to short stroke a pump under stress, on their own videos, to be completely confident in my own ability in a mortal threat context.

Personally I find the bullpups are too small and compact for me(I'm quite large). As well, the mag changes are more awkward than on an ar style just because it's tight to the body and sometimes you have to unshoulder the gun. Another consideration is that the trigger on a bullpup will never match a regular style of rifle, just because of all the extra linkage and stuff. Also, they generally don't like lefty people.

That said, I have an FD12 and it functions great. Had some feeding issues, but that was mostly from running target loads in too open of a choke. I found target loads needed a modified choke or better to build enough pressure to cycle the action correctly(problem with a lot of semi shotguns). It's a great gun and built really solid, but frankly, if I had to go back I wouldn't get a bullpup. I mostly got it because I've always wanted something in a bullpup, and the trade offs to get a compact package are generally not really worth it for me as I'm a very pragmatic individual who doesn't actually need a shorty shotgun of this style(probably great for action shooting). Although...I kinda want to go to a pheasant hunting event with it...you know...to blend in with all those fancy doubles...lol!

Thank you for all your input guys... really appreciate it. Bit the bullet and got the Bullpup... mostly because nobody on the planet has a Derya Mark in stock. Oh well... maybe for my
next christmas present to me! :)
Again... appreciate all the comments guys!

I'm sure you'll be happy with the choice. They're honestly good guns, it's just a trade off between size and details of functionality. So while it might have sounded a bit like I was ragging on them, it's really more of just pointing out there's a few trade offs to get the bullpup style vs a more traditional lay out.

One more thing to point out, you might want to take a dremel and polishing wheel to the feed ramp. They are really steep on the FD12(almost vertical) and I assume many other guns and the extra little bit of friction from the finish makes a difference. Also, if you are getting failure to eject/feed it's likely a problem with having enough power to cycle the action. So try a heavier loading or tightening the choke before you get too frustrated with the gun itself. If the shells aren't being thrown far on eject, you're running close to the power limits for proper cycling.
