Im looking for a scope for around $1000 these are the two im thinking of:

http://vortexcanada.net/products/riflescopes/viper_pst/viper_pst_4-16x50_ffp_ebr1mrad.html

Im leaning towards the vortex because of the reticle and the higher power. Any other recommendations would be nice

I have high end Leupolds on every rifle in my safe. They work, don't break,

I used to have a Leupold on every rifle that I owned, now I don't own a single one.All of my Coopers wear Kahles scopes, and the one on order will likely wear a Swarovski Z5.

Oh ya, your on a slippery slope now, pretty soon all your rifles will have S&B's which will keep you happy, (for now)

Not on a slippery slope at all.I purchased two of the Kahles for less than what a VX3 costs, and Clay is bringing in two more for me.In fact Clay will soon have around 20 more 3-9x42 Kahles CL scopes at very attractive prices. The only thing better than a high quality Austrian or German scope,is the same scope at a greatly reduced price.Unfortunately,I want more magnification on the Phoenix Model 54 in 260,so I am thinking a Swarovski 3.8-18x44 Z5.Clay also brought in a Zeiss Diavari 6-24x56 for my target rifle.

Are you saying in a 260 Rem. cartridge ???

I most certainly am.I flipped and flopped between the 243,and the 260,and finally decided on the 260 because of the longer barrel life, and because the 243win came with too slow of a twist for the high BC .243" bullets. It will be my long range coyote and pronghorn gun.

The Model 54 repeater is out now,and the Phoenix synthetic stocks will be available by the time the order comes up at Cooper.

have a look at the Sightron SIII LR lineup. Glass is superb and the tracking is dead on. Side focus and eye focus work really well. Huge eye relief, wide field of view, very bright, massive elevation adj, etc, etc, etc.

I have compared them to alot of scopes and these are my new fave.

Easily compete with scopes costing several times more.

I used to be a huge Elite 4200 fan but the features of the new Sightron and optics and won me over.

So far, the Vortex scopes I have seen haven't really impressed me that much. Nor the Zeiss Conquest for that matter.

YMMV.

I will defiantly check it out

Those Sightrons are really good, but my new favourite is the Trijicon Accupoint 5-20 with a green pin dot and mildot reticle. Have a look at that baby. They have the same glass as Nightforce scopes. This scope is so underrated, but I think more expensive than a comparable Sightron. On the other hand, the Trijicon has fibre optic and tritium technology on top of everything the Sightron has. If you have the money (Trijicon is about $1300 I think) I wold go that way over the Sightron, but if you're on a budget Sightron it is.
