Just recently I came into possession of some CIL 38-55 ammo (3 full boxes+1 box of 14). The (gold colored) boxes and ammo are in exceptional shape considering it's about 40 odd years old. Considering that the rifle I have is 102 years old it may be more collectable than the ammo. I'm sure this ammo calibre is still manufactured as it's listed on Wholesale Sports' website but their guys behind the counter just look at me sideways when i enquire about it. Is it obsolete?

"...obsolete?..." Sort of. Winchester loads it, but it may not be easy to find. Winchester chambered their John Wayne, I think, Commemorative in .38-55. Some CAS shooters use it as well. Reloading will make the 'sideways' looks go away.
Your CIL may be of interest to collectors, but you'd have to find somebody who wants it. New brass isn't terribly difficult to come by.

It's already survived 40+ years, keep it. Especially from a defunct Cdn manufacturer. New Win ammo is in the Wholesale catalogue.

It should go well with your collectable rifle. Neither ar in production anymore and it's always nice to have some reliable ammo kicking around just for show and tell. Take a few rounds out of the part box and see how much taht old girl snorts, you'll be impressed, considerably more jam than a 30-30 with the later smokeless powders and heavy bullets that CIL used. bearhunter
