Was cleaning my new Tula 1941 SVT today for the first time preparing to spend 40 min cleaning the barrel and after running 1 patch through it almost came out spotless :dancingbanana: The barrel is Flawless to, Did they ever put new barrels in? All my bolts and such seem the be to old originals too, Abit worn more then I would like, Horizontal burs that almost look like crevasses. My stock seems to have a 1 inch section that was repaired and the stock has the sort of tiger stripe.

To bad the rifle can't tell its story. Looks like its seen use. Hopefully I can get my hands on the newer model next :) Hopefully this things accurate. I might just try non corrosive ammo to get a good idea of what it shoots like.

My SVT from PS militaria was spotless, He must have a cleaning bath of some sorts.

Well worth the extra 50$ lol....

My SVTs with their fluted chambers and frosted barrels take an absurd amount of time to clean. Doesn't help that I shoot corrosive.. d'oh.

It's the same with any extensivley used milsurplus. I had been getting same frustrating results with any old rifle. Until I found that you can't clean it in one time from the layers that stayed there for decades. Our problem is that we are using very good solvents and they keep removing those layers one by one. So you have two options - clean it from the powder residue (black patches) and fresh copper fouling (green or blue patches), but ignore grey patches. Or. You can send your rifle through 2 month rehabilitation course by leaving it overnight with bore wet with Hoppes9 or some foam solvent, next day couple of patches and againg wet one with Hoppes9 and so on for about 2 months. Eventually it will become much much better. I did this to one SVT with frosted barrel and MN M91 with dark barrel, they cleaned up pretty well. It's easier to clean them after shooting too. And I shoot corrosive 7.62 only.
