took the marlin 795 to the range today..

Just wanted to share...
Went for a quick range trip today, shot 50 rnds today. Was using rem. yellow jackets for the first time. Here are the last set of targets after having some initial fun/testing.

This 2" target was shot at appx 20yrds standing rapid string 15rds.

this was shot at 80yrds, front sand bag for support. Only 9 shots - mis counted when I loaded it up :(

All shot with a marlin 795 with tech sights that I'm still getting use to. Think I can safely say I have a good little rifle.

The only thing I don't like about my 795, is that every time I shoot it, it reminds me of the time and $$ I wasted on my 10/22

Hahah. Ya i agree. Gona take my marlin out tom. Still trying to break her in. I had some issues, it was shooting to the right a lot. Just need to find a good trigger for it now. I did find a guy on rimfire central that sells a trigger for it. 24oz trigger for $81 US.

I scoped mine, and it shoots pretty much like yours - sweet 100 yard group. Seems tech sights are as good as a scope - or maybe you're a better shot than me. Although my scope and rings are pretty sweet and cost as much as a tech sight so I think I went the right direction.
It's not a target trigger but I don't complain. She eats everything I feed it as well. Eats everything, but best groups so far with my dwindling supply of cci target.
If I sell it, it's not because of the gun, but because I can't find good 22 ammo and can reload my 357 mag carbine for about as much as target 22 these days.

Bought my tech sights off a CGN'r for $80 if i remember right so I cant complain. As for tthe 80 yrd target I think there was more luck than skill involved. Couldnt see the black of the circle, front post covered everything lol.

At 20yrds I put the top of the post at the center of the target. At 80yrds I basically tried puting the target appx in the middle of the post.

Yup my 795 has a special place in my heart. For $180 brand new it has got to be the best gun out there for the money.

This is a 9 shot group (had one misfire, cheap ammo) on a tin can of chew tobacco @50:

Karna, mind my asking what is the brand of the mag and where did you get it from?

As for my 795 it's my go to 22. I have a 10/22 takedown and it doesn't see the light as much as the Marlin.

Scope is a cheap Simmons 3-9 22mag from Canadian tire and the bipod is off of eBay.

Does the bipod just fit on to the sling swivel ? Mine does not look that strong .
I would like to put a bipod on my 795. Can you give me any info on yours
so that I can order one ?

Thanks

I had one and sold it when funds where tight. And I've regretted it ever since. Great rifle. I had a fixed 4 power on it and with the 25 round mag it sure would pile up the tree rats. I only paid $125 brand new for it too. But got $250 for it at auction so it wasn't a total lose. I've now moved onto bolt action rimfires tho so I'm happy again but I would not hesitate to get another 795 again. Especially over a 10/22. Sure you can't get as much stuff for it as a 10/22 but the 795 are a lot more accurate and they have the last shot bolt hold unlike the 10/22 which drove me nuts. I just used to much ammo with them also so I went to bolt which I have found much more accurate and less ammo used. Anyways happy shooting

Posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating. Sure, only at 25 yards, but still... Two 7 shot groups. Bottom right is Remington golden bullets bulk ammo. Centre group is CCI mini mags.

The more we mention this, the more we can save people from the cost, pain, and disappointment of getting sucked in by the 10/22 hype.

The grid lines are 1" apart. And yes, that centre ragged hole is truly a 7 shot group (7 shot factory standard mags in the 795, for Marlin only knows why).

My new 795 came with a factory 10 rounder, and I just got another 10 rounder in the mail from Wolverine. It was the last one they had though. Still haven't been out to shoot it, but my new rings came in the mail yesterday and I installed the Mcarbo spring kit already. Can't wait to try it out!

Hmmm....alittle off topic here, but I think I'll have to consider the McFadden Lightning loader for my 795. Easy loading of the mags will make shooting the 795 that more enjoyable. Nice shooting OP..

I was looking at one of these tonight. Found the magazine to be extremely tight to fit in and hard to pull out. Store only had one so I could not compare others to see if this was just specific to that rifle or the magazine. Any others have this issue?
