Took The Plunge

Hi,
Collected my new Norinco M14 yesterday which I intend to use as a winter project.
I want the transformation project to be slow and methodical.
What I need, and what I think would be useful to anyone planning a similar project is a consolidation of all the suppliers of components for this type of conversion. For example who makes the best op-rod guide and who (preferably in Canada) sells it?
Also a guide as to which parts to get first would be helpful, taking into account delivery lead times an general availability.
If all of this is already available in one resource here lead me to it.

I'm quite interested in this too. I'm a neophyte with the Norinco shorty M14...I most want to know what are the basic reliability, durability and practical accuracy mods and upgrades for the rifle. I'm not interested in anything exotic...

Best advice I can give is to cruise the stickies above.
Also learn your rifle and the correct names for it's parts. Milsurps.com has all kinds of technical stuff in pdf form.
An NM "oprod spring guide rod" is a must do mod for accuracy and also assists in reducing wear on moving parts.

As for suppliers... The EE here is by far the best source for exotic accessories , brownells, NEA, marstar, wolverine, fabsports, Canada Ammo, wanstalls, and a few others than can chime in and myself(stocks and NM guide rods).
Attend an M14 clinic if one comes to your area. Also I believe the 2004 Hungry clinic hosted by skullboy in abbotsford BC is still online for download somewhere.
Either way we have a huge group of helpful guys here who have learned to iron out the kinks and do the simple mods that get these rifles shooting nice.

Exactly what the M14Doctor says. My fav immediate upgrade is the National Match Op Rod spring guide that M14Doctor sells. Other suppliers for M14 parts (not sure about current inventory) could be board sponsors like Epps, OneShotTactical, FabSports, TSE, SFRC, Target Sports, NorthEast Arms.

Read the stickies and download the video 2004 Skullboy/Hungry clinic! Lots of good help here in this forum!

Learn how to stake your op rod guide. This trues the reciprication of the op-rod and helps accurize the rifle. Welcome, it's a rifle you should keep for life.

This is exactly the kind of advice I'm looking for. Is there a website or mailing list regarding clinics? Or do I just watch this forum?
