I was itching to try the replacement sent from CSA as my .223 was defective, this one is the first one ive tried with the collapsable stock and it was fun much more accurate than my other VZ......in fact my first one is really really off i was just thinking i was a rough shot but no the front sights are way out to lunch and i would like to ask for some info on how to adjust the forward sights, any way fun day at our nicely cleaned up firing range

I did. That's why I'm so surprised and disappointed. Wonder if I can push for a refund. Anyway not to hijack your thread op. Hope you're having better luck than I am.

Can you post what the year is of your CSA Vz 58, caliber, and what issue you're having. I'm trying to gather info on the ones that are defective to find a pattern. The year is on the side of the rifle near the rear sight beside the Czech Lion crest. 11 would mean it was made in 2011.

Glad the OP got all that sorted out. My .223 Vz 58 is still chirpin a long at round count 300 and its a 2013. I want to get one in 7.62 as well.

I really loved the idea of having the .223 for the lar 15 pistol mag but after all the trouble i had with mine and the issues others were having 7.62X39 is the way to go for me plus the wife is a big fan of the new one she feels theres less recoil but i think its her fear of that large of a caliber subsiding since she got her 20g shotgun lol

WOW there sending me a free complementary folding stock because i was not really happy about the AR 15 style stock....i'm sooooo impressed with these guys i will not hesitate on any CSA product

I suspect its because CSA has taken a big hit on the Canadian market and realize the frustration and distrust they've caused. They will need to spend a lot of money in order to gain Canadians trust again which I can see from your post, they're doing the right thing. This is why I suspect there must be a year of rifles that were made that were a bad batch but they've improved they're quality control now. I also suspect that the amount of problematic rifles is much less then what CGN makes it out to be as lots of people who don't even own one will gladly pour more fuel to the fire. I just went shooting today again with my 2013 CSA .223 Vz 58 and its hit round count 400 still with out a single failure. Most people have said there problems occurred almost immediately. My Norinco M305 today was spliting the cases so I'm wondering what that's about.

Anyways, I'm glad CSA is helping you out. This makes me feel more comfortable about having this .223 Vz 58 because if it does fail, then CSA will more than likely replace it for me for a 7.62x39 Vz 58.

I currently do not have the rifle with me. It is with the gunsmith who offered to shoot it himself as I really do not have any more time with school bogging me down to head down to test the rifle out.

However I think it is a 2013, it is one of the chrome lined models that SFRC sold when they brought in like 4 of them.

Here is the list of the issues.

First time taking out after 10 shots gun would not fire, firing pin ended up in receiver with sheared off groove so extractor would not hold it in any longer.

Second time firing pin ends up stuck protruding out back of bolt, same issue as before with pin damage. FTE, round has a big fat hole in the primer case almost split. 40 rounds fired before this.

Third time FTE, case is stuck in chamber with big fat hole in the primer, piece of brass covering firing pin hole as well. Once brass removed everything looks ok until I notice the pin getting sort of stuck when protruding outward, I take bolt apart and long behold same issue as before, only this time enough was hanging on the piece to not fly out this time.

It would appear to be an over pressure problem. I was given smaller pistons each time. However I suspect it is a combination of over pressure and simple bolt/pin design. The original extractor did not look as beefy as the 858 extractor, in addition to this the pin looked like it was protruding a little far out (possibly why it was blowing up primers all the time). When the primer went it was enough pressure to damage the pin.

So this is where I'm at right now :). I wonder if I can get a folding stock because of the troubles I've gone through.... :/

Anyway one thing I will say is I am very impressed with the gunsmith in charge of the warranty and repair. He has to be the most knowledgeable gunsmith I have met so far. So CSA got it right there.

What is the turn on with the .223? Is it more accurate or something? I bought a vz58 in 7.62x39 because I have lots of that ammo. If the .223 functioned perfectly what would make a guy buy one. For something different? I guy called my vz58 a black SKS????? I was a little offended I told him its a totally different rifle. He said it shoot SKS ammo. What can you do but just roll your eye balls.

for me it was the mag well adapter and lar 15 pistol mags and a more comfortable cal for my wife at the time she's the only one with me at the range EVERY time so she played into my choice for the .223 now she loves the 7.62x39
