how bad is this top strap wear?

do they sell an aftermarket SS shield like some S&W revolvers have?

I wouldn't worry about it. Eventually the area hardens up and the flame cutting stops. My S&W 27 has some deep cuting from a steady diet of hot loads but I'm not concerned after a bit of research on the matter.

That's nothing. It took a lot of ammo to get that far. It'll take a lot more before you notice that it's any bigger.

Looks like my 586 that I have been shooting for over 20 years, like tactical870 said it pretty much stops after it hardens up.

HOWDY; Looks like a Ruger 357 mag I pounded the piss out of for years . Shot pounds of winchester 296 and 200 grain bullets. No big deal carry on I would and did .
