I am really torn between purchasing a crate of Russian 7.62x54r (880)... or Russian 7.62x39 (1400)... looking for advice from the pros, as to what is the better investment long term?

I'd say buy both... Obviously you have guns chambered in both...

Can't beat the price for surplus ammo & once it's gone we don't know when we will see more of it...

I've bought over 6200 rounds of ammo this week...

Cheers
Jay

...... yes I would love to get both... and might do so... but if it came down to 1

7.62x54R is less popular and doesn't sell out as quickly. It also hasn't changed too much in price over the past two years.
7.62x39 sells out all the time and is a more popular plinking round. Prices for it have increased more over the past two years.
Both are still used by several militaries world wide so production for either shouldn't cease for a while.

In terms of investment and saving money in the long term buying 7.62x39 now is probably a better deal than 7.62x54R. I would guess that 7.62x39 will increase in price faster than 7.62x54R.
Price increases are inevitable simply because of inflation and decreasing value of the dollar over time.

interesting.
after seeing what has happened the last few months i'm starting to see the value of investing in ammo.
now how to break this to the wife, lol.

It is cheaper then gold or a house.... but it never goes down in value.. you can always sell it for what you paid for it... if you hold on to it long enough, it will increase in value.... it is never a waste of $$ to buy ammo.

Ok .. I just ordered a crate of Russian 7.62x39 (1400) from Budgetshootersupply.. for a mere $262 .. 19¢ a round...Hernry is great to deal with..... Now for some 7.62x54r
