Still here.
Of course it was cancelled by Mike Harris with the simple purpose of punishing Northern Ontario for voting NDP, but now that it's been brought back the Red Star is running articles against it and down near the bottom of this one is a poll on it, one of the most leading I've ever seen. Vote and be counted and of course you need not live in Ontario, this is a vote on the principle of having a bear hunt at all.

This poll is not going to change anyone's opinions... now that the cancellation has been reversed for economic reasons, it is far less likely that it will be banned again without more serious local input... not the fiasco that it was before.

Still I always feel it's a good idea to let these people know we're here and aware of what they're doing.

At the very least, it's nice they're running a section on the conservation benefits involved with the bear hunt. I know it won't change the minds of those who are assured hunting is all about trophies and is a blood sport, the comments prove that. Getting the word out that hunting is an important part of conservation is always worthwhile though in my opinion. It obviously doesn't make the Star any less of a trash rag given the rest of the article's content.

That is a fair statement, but as an Ontarian, I find it embarrassing that torontonians carry so much weight in these polls and so much weight come voting time..... It would be nice if the rest of the country understood that Ontario has a huge rural / semi rural component that. Doesn't agree with them and has consistently voted conservative for many years......

Not all of us share Quebec level partisan voting principles....

No. One bullet can kill an entire bear family 58.35% (1,380 votes)

Yes. It’s an effective plan to manage the population 41.65% (985 votes)

Total Votes: 2,365

Black Bear populations aren't suffering and in some places they are a problem, increasing with time. Newspapers exist to sell as many copies as possible, no more. Crap they are putting out, no wonder they're losing readers.

Grizz

News organizations are just starting to realize that hitching their wagons to leftist liberal politics and special interest groups is counter productive. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but, you can't fool all of the people all of the time. Just look at organizations like CNN where they're ratings have plummeted almost 66% in the last two years. Folks gradually twig to what's bullshyte and what's not. It just takes a while is all.

These people voting no would also vote No on a fall hunt as well. There's something about bears that antis have a real soft spot with.

I wish there was a study on how many cubs a large boar kills in his life time. Or how many bears are shot by small rural municipalities that cause damage every year. I bet a lot of the time these two examples causes more bear orphans than hunters do each spring.

How many of those that voted No leave their garbage out at their nice cabins in the woods so the now garbage habituated bears need to be destroyed by the CO's......

That is not why they go after bear hunting... it is because they have limited resources and good will amongst the anti-hunting and particularly the "non-hunting" crowd, and there are fewer bear hunters than other big game pursuits... they are just attacking what they perceive to be the weakest link... same goes for trophy hunting... unfortunately the strategy works as they get more than a few hunters throwing the others under the bus... if they succeed with bear bans, they will just move on to the next link in the chain and won't stop until there is no chain.
