Torque value ? Rem. 870 optics rail.

Can't seem to fing the torque value for installing a 4 hole optics rail on a Remington 870.

I was thinking of using 15 inch pounds on 6-48 screws, with a drop of purple loctite.
That's a guess at best.

The correct value would be appreciated if someone could post it.

As tight as a thumb and one finger on the short end of the Torx wrench works... or a little tighter.
 
In my opinion 15 in.-lbs seems light, although with the purple Loctite you might be OK. The most common recommendation for screws used to attach scope bases to the receiver seems to be 25 in.-lbs., and I don't see any reason that this torque value wouldn't also apply to attaching a rail to the receiver (I'm assuming a steel receiver). In all of my scope-mounting endeavours, I've gone with the 25 in-lbs. and blue Loctite for the bases (and these have all been with 6-48 screws)--and a little less (15-18 in.-lbs.) for ring screws.
 
Just wondering if you thought of asking s&j hardware, since they made the rail???
I would think they could give you the answer you're looking for.

Get a few good quality screws from a hardware that sells open box screws. Get a tap and appropriate drill bit and drill/tap some holes in a piece of good steal. Get a feel for how much torque can put on them before destruction. You will find it is quite a lot. Then assemble your rail and get the screws quite snug and even with some blue Loctite. you should be good to go. Then you have a tap and drill for another job but you might want to get a bottoming and intermediate tap to go with your set. Put them in a small Ziploc and label to keep everything together.
