Total newb, Sunshine Coast

Hello all, I'm new... not just to this forum but to guns: I'm a Brit which is pretty much a gunless country.

I'm an elderly martial arts teacher on the warm and wet Sunshine Coast (BC). The wife (also a teacher) decided we didn't have enough weapons in the house  so we PAL'd up and ready for our first firearm. Got to be a bolt action 22lr, for target shooting. Got any recommendations?

I like the cz bolt guns, I think the 457 has a stainless barrel but I never had a problem with a blued barrel on the coast if I kept up on the oil.I have a marlin XT 22 which is cheaper but the accuracy is very close with the gun I have but the gun feels cheap.

Welcome to Nutz from SEOntario. Your budget will ultimately determine your choice in rimfire. What you’re going to do with the gun will affect the choice. Optics or iron sights, heavy barrel or sporter, bench, offhand, target, hunting ? Many different models suitable but only you know thei intended purpose(s). If It was me and your budget allows an Anschutz would serve you well. NordicMarksman is a site sponsor and the Canadian distributor for Annies. Best of luck

Target shooting is a pretty wide spectrum, so hard to recommend a specific model without more info like shooting positions (standing, prone, bench, barracades) and distances.

That being said... if I didn't know what I was going to do, I would get a CZ 457 Varmint or Tikka T1X with a heavy barrel. Both of these are solid rifles that can be customized with an aftermarket stock to match different shooting styles without having to buy a new gun.

Welcome! My dad lives in Powell River the local gun range has a Tuesday night thing specifically for 22’s if you happen to be out that way
