9.3x74r or 6.5x57r

6.5x57r let's me use it in a caliber restricted area of South west Ontario as well as for big game in northern ontario
9.3x74r is better suited to bears and moose

The rifle I'm interested in is available in both cartridges. For Ontario game what would you choose?

I have a Tikka T3X 6.5 Creedmore. It worked very well getting deer in Southern Ontario and I got a moose up north (WMU 47). I upgraded since to a 30-06 for up north (only because I fond a used one from a buddy). The 6.5 will serve you well if you use the correct grain of bullet for whatever you want to harvest.

The 9.3 fills a niche better for me than does the 6.5x57. Thankfully I hunt far away from the caliber restricted areas. Both are nice rimmed European cartridges but in my experience 9.3x74 isn’t particularly hard to find good factory ammunition for while the 6.5x57 has only a few niche loadings with limited bullet weights.

Seems to be leaning that way. But which one should come first?
I got a 40th bday coming up early next year.

The 9.3X74R is more versatile, so I would do that first... but the 6.5 & 9.3 pair is a pretty handy hunting set.
