Hi : Anyone have experiance with scopes for hard kickers like .416Rigby & .458 Win Mag. Fixed power is probably better but would like to hear from anyone with variable experiance Thank You

Icehunter here on the boards has a lot of heavy artillery, and uses mostly B&L ScopeChief scopes. I've used a couple as well, and they hold up very well, in addition to excellent glass and suitable eye relief

Prosper mentions suitable eye relief and some people forget about this when shooting a heavy kicker and choosing a scope for it. You don't want to have to crowd the scope. One day in the heat of the moment it will bite you.

Zeiss, Swarovski, Schmidt&Bender... all in fixed mag.... should do it.
The Variable ones from the same company are very good too.
If you're on a budget (if you're using any of those calibers, a good scope is just a few ammo boxes' worth) a fixed (not variable) Leuopold, IOR, Docter or Meopta would do.

One little thing. The large objective ones (40 mm is a large objective.. 50 is huge... 56 is humongous) are not recommended. Scopes fall apart under their own weight, so lighter is better.

S&b

haven't had a change to play with Zeiss , but S&B would be in my opinion the nicest and Toughest, not just nice glass, but the machanic system S&B had in the scope had proven 1000 of round over. if money is not a big issue, S&B all the way!

SuperCub,

Simply becasue the Unertl 10X is the toughest scope ever built. The USMC and our DND snipers and several wars have clearly proved it. Maybe not the scoep for a .416 Rigby, but certainly the toughest.
