I went out and picked me up a brand new TOZ 78 yesterday for 100$ (so my girlfriend would have a plinker of her own). While on my drive home i really started to think i was going to regret my purchase. I should of turned around and walked away when the clerk and I had to mess around with 3 different guns to find one that seemed in good working condition.....I was not impressed with their inconsistency . It seems like a cheap-o rifle, the bolt is sticky, there's alot of play on the trigger ( i still have to play with the adjustments, hopefully that will help) and we had alot of problems getting thier flimsy mags to hold in its spot. Not to mention the finish is disgusting. I haven't shot it yet but all-in-all my first impression leads me to believe that this is a major POS.:(

*On a good note,I also ordered my remington 870 express from wholesale sports yesterday, should be here within 2 weeks.... YIPPIE!!!

I've had a 78 now for a number of months, and while I must say the mags are a bit rough, the rifle itself is great. Action is smooth, and it's suprisingly accurate.

I found there was basically no finish on the wood at all, other than some oil/grease that I assume was for storage/shipping, which I removed, and refinished the wood.

The blue is light, but even. Again, I was looking for a shooter, not a looker in any case :)

YMMV of course, but I was very please, especially for the price.

Those CGN'ers who have bought them all seem to have great things to say:) . I personally think its great other than the apparent cheap plastic mags. A little cleaning and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the accuracy. They're a great little machine for sure, altho I was a bit concerned when u said u had problems finding one to work properly:confused: ...Seemed odd. U should do a search on the site for the TOZ78 and see the comments, and put your mind at ease. Unless u have an oddball, you wont be disappointed..
Cheers:)

Love mine. I hate cheap stuff but after firing it I had to get it. It has no fit and finish but shoots very well. Well worth the $100, if it broke tomorrow I would feel I got my monies worth.

Once you shoot it you will fall in love with this ugly duckling.

The trigger is 2 stage, like every military rifle ever issued. It's fully adjustable for weight and overtravel.......it has a better trigger than any other commercial .22 out there under $400. These guns are all covered in packing grease, hard to tell how smooth the action is until you clean it off and lube it. Mags seem cheap but they work and if they don't lock in it's an easy fix. They also have dual extractors, something you won't find on any north american made .22. They are quite accurate to boot. Finish is fine for me, it's a $100 plinker not a $10,000 wall hanger. I think you are a bit too fussy and if you don't like it I'll give you $100 for it. I have 2 and think they are a smoking deal for $100.

Give them a quick call on monday and ask for Lena. They probably got it and processed it and your rifle is in the mail already......

ya your maybe right.... I should give it a fair chance before i write it off as a "major POS"... for a 100$, can't expect perfection.

Its a lot closer to perfection for $100 than others I have seen for well over that amount.. Like has been said earlier, give it a thorough cleaning first, and then go have fun with it. The action will smooth out even more after repeated use and its accuracy and trigger are surprisingly good... Hey you have probably spent more than $100 just on dinner/drinks with even less favorable results over yur lifetime;) . We all have!
Enjoy your toy...no, I meant the TOZ..:D
Cheers

Toz-78 POS?? Hardly... very accurate out of the box, adustable trigger, protected crown, light, double extractor and tough as nails. I was shooting dandylions at 50yds. And above all $100.. find me an alternative if you can.

The only problem I have with my TOZ78 is that I dont have enough rounds through it ( Still Under 100 ) and the action is still a bit stiff, I polished up the bolt it helped a bit, but still a bit rough.

Keep shooting Robert, it'll smoothen up. I've got about 1000 rounds through mine and I work the bolt with my index finger now.

If I paid more for the Toz than I did for my 10/22 I'd still feel it's worth it. I'm putting 5 rounds into about 1.5" at 100m, with the iron sights (ammo dependent, of course).

We are lucky to be getting such a good deal on these rifles. Far less expensive here than in the US or Europe, and people there like them too.

I'm looking at removing the rear sight and putting a target sight that mounts on the rail.

Holy crap, these things are $100 bucks again. I'm going to have to give them a call tomorrow.

Sweet I might get a second one. Have one with a scope and another with match sights. My friend couldn't believe the 2 stage trigger on it and how nice it was.

Those Russian weapons are a bit unrully untill they are properly cleaned. I go through the same hesitation everytime I buy one. Now I am the proud PAPA of 5 various Russian made rifles. Once you clean it. Everything works like a charm. It must be the greese they use it makes all the parts hard to line up but once cleaned they are cleaned they are a joy to shoot. Good Luck enjoy your new purchase

wow, its been a week since i emailed them (armrus) and i still have no reply (or so i thought). I just checked my "junk mail" folder and their reply was there...stupid hotmail and its incompotent email sorting abilities...

maybe not so "POS"

Gave it a good cleaning last night and took a better look at it.... I have a feeling i will soon be withdrawing all negative comments made earlier. maybe it was the excess greese, maybe it was the "shifty" other rifles i tried at armrus, that worried me.... but mine, once cleaned thoroughly seems like a different rifle altogether. the bolt is still a little stiff but i suspect it will smooth out with time. The only thing i'm having a hard time getting use to, are those flimsy magazine's....

bringing it to the range tommorrow, I'll let y'all know how it shoots.
