The Toz-78 and the Winchester Wildcat22 are the same rifle sold under different brands. They represent the best price/quality in a 22 cal.
y2k: Well I have some good and some bad news for you. The Toz-78 has been discontinued and the only way you can get one is to find one used. I was lucky enough to be able to find one at Gobel's Firearms out of Ontario, and they had to hunt one down for me. I was able to buy the last "new" one they could find in Canada, and it is a demo model, apparently in fantastic shape. As a side note the Winchester Wildcat is the same gun, just the stock is in a more North American fashion and it doesn't come with an adjustable trigger. Again this is just what I was told when I bought my TOZ-78 so YMMV. I haven't gotten my rifle yet, and I will be posting my full impressions after I have a chance to shoot it!
haretrigger: The Wildcat rifles are made in the same factory in Russia, and they are based on the TOZ-78, and all of the ones I have seen have the TOZ-78 stamped on the barrel.

BigBadBlair: Yes the more expensive Target Varmint comes with an adjustable trigger, but it also comes with no iron sights at all, so you would be needing to make an additional investment in a scope. While the $50 extra for the rifle alone and whatever dollar amount extra for scope would be fine for some people, I am far more happy to get the same features for a minimum of $70-$100 less, and to spend the money saved there on a crap load of ammo! I have no doubt that both rifles shoot incredibly well, again I just would rather spend the extra money on ammo!

Anyone own/shoot one of these?
Are they alright?
Get one.
A really accurate rifle at a really economical price (I picked up 2 a few years ago from Armrus @ $100 each).
It's the most accurate 22 I own.
