Hello all,

I was at a gun show today and came across a neat looking little rifle, the Toz 99.

I currently own a Winchester Wildcat (aka. Toz 78) and like it, the 99 seems very similar.
They look like they take the same magazines, and the magwell/safety area looks identical.

Does anyone know how durable/reliable these guns are?

If they aren't a fragile, jam-o-matic piece of crud I'm gonna have to buy one for the collection.

Thanks,

Then one i had worked great with win sub hp. I ve red at quite a few places that you should not use ammo faster than subsonic or standard velocity because of very fragile sear. When i red that i looked at mine juste to see what they ment about fragile sear and whene i saw mine i understood immediately. I loved it very much, accurate and dependable but did not want to get stuck with a rifle for wich i could not find parts to either to fix or remedy so i sold it. How much was it?

The one I had, the sear broke in two after about 200 rounds and at the time I couldnt locate a replacement. I've read several reports of the same issue. That was several years ago so not sure if it was just a bad batch or what...ymmv

I held one last week at Rons army in Halifax, was $249 felt nice, nearly bought it,, scared of warranty repair availability
.

They were available in good quantities a few years back, and very inexpensive. I was drawn to the sort of "Soviet steampunk" look of them, and since I am a fan of the Winchester version, I almost bought one. I changed my mind after reading some of the extensive negative threads about them on Rimfire Central. I would suggest visiting that site and doing a search before you throw any money at one.

Hmmm... that's disappointing, I was really hot on the idea of buying one of these.
Not sure that I would want to spend the money on a gun that fragile.

Dugasgunner - the price being asked was $220 I think, it was at the Jerseyville gun show here in Ont.
It had a gorgeous stock on it, real nice red rifle look to it.

Thanks for the opinions guys, I might read a little more about it, but it doesn't look too promising for this one.
I'll probably just settle for a ruger 10/22.

Yes very dissapointing espacially when you know how the 78 is accurate and dependable. They would only need to change how the sear is held on the body. To bad for them. I would buy another one in a heart beat if this was fixed. I paid mine 199$ four years ago.
If you don t mind the money, go for it, but again use only low velocity ammo. Ex: WIN SUB HP or CCI SUB HP. You might be lucky

I'm not a machinist by any means, and I haven't looked at this sear myself.
But is there any possibility an enterprising Gunnut could create an improved, stronger sear?

If that were to happen, I would totally buy a Toz 99.
