TOZ Anyone have any in info?

Anybody have any insight on these rimfire rifles especially the bolt action one.

Are these triggers adjustable and how are they?

Any info on mounting a scope on these. Is there a dove tail and how wide is it? That hooded front sight it looks very high. Is it in the way? How high rings do you need? Or can the front sight be easily removed.

Is it an accurate gun. For plinking and paper punching.


I searched at rimfire central and people were very impressed for the price. although they seemed very bias.

I have a nice little 4 power Leopold just bagging to be put on something.

I was all set to buy a CZ 452 but after the price went up about 120 dollars about a month ago, I have started looking else where. Considering I could buy 2 of these for about the amount of money.

I have a Winchester Wildcat, which is basically a rebadged TOZ 78.

The Winchester version doesn't have the hooded front sight, so I can't comment on that. The receiver scope mount grooves are the standard width. I have a cheap Tasco 4x on it and it works fine.

The two stage trigger has a nice clean break. About 4 pounds, I'd guess. It's not adjustable, at least not without gunsmith work.

The rifle is awesomely accurate up to 50 yards. I haven't tried it at longer ranges. Very light weight - with scope the whole thing is not much over 5 lbs. Nice if you plan on carrying it around much.

The action is a bit rough, but functions well. The stock is some kind of hardwood finished to look like walnut. All the pieces fit and overall look is good. No one, however, will ever mistake this for a $600 gun.

I wouldn't compare a WW/TOZ to a CZ, but I think it compares favourably to other rifles in the $200-250 range. The Russians obviously know a thing or two about making guns.

I'm obviously biased, but I can offer some answers regard the scope mounting.

The receiver has 8.5 mm grooves. This is slightly smaller than the rimfire 3/8 groove. However, many scope rings will fit. They just need to be able to clamp down a bit tighter. Reportedly, the rings which clamp down from both sides are best suited for clamping down that extra bit while staying centered. High rings are reported to clear the sights.

Alternatively, it is possible to buy mounts specifically made for the toz 99 & 78. Kalinka Optics sells them:

I like the toz and it was a smokin deal at $125 shipped with 4 mags when I bought it.
I put a williams FPGR peep on it and it works great with the hooded front sight!
The post is adjustable for elevation so I adjusted it to be in the center of the hood and then did my elevation for sighting in with the rear peep.....makes for a nice sight picture!
The trigger is adjustable(2 screws accessed through the trigger guard) but I've never touched it because it was great out of the box.
Bolt was a little rough but I smoothed it up a bit...

They are by far the most accurate rimfire bolt action I have ever bought for a $100. They sell for more then double now but the wood is better (check rest) and some other small things I believe. The triggers are great but everything on them is Russian wruff but more then workable.

They are a silent jewel in my books.
