Good to hear he is recovering well.
hydrotherapy does help. if he likes swimming it will strengthen the muscles around the knee without putting too much pressure on the joint. it will help strngthen the limb.
he is more prone to arthritc changes in his knee and would advise speaking to your veterinarian about using glucosamine and omega 3 supplements, they can only help and would not cause harm in proper dosing.
once a dog has one leg with a torn ACL it is more likely to occur on the other leg as well ( even after a TPLO) since they try to compensate with the stronger leg for making fast turns.
im assuming he has lost of energy and is a GO GO GO dog but try to prevent stimulating him from running sharp turns.
i can foresee an ACL tare happening to my dog one of these days and I dread it since i am all to familiar with all that intales and p- operatively and recovery.
take care
I hope your dog recovers well. My dog had both legs operated on. The second one went really close to the first one after surgery.
Poor girl suffered for a while. She is good now but runs differently. She gets sore easily after too much activity now or from extended periods of it.
She is getting some arthritis now in her hips and maybe her knees. We now give her a shot of cartrophen which is working really good. Before she would need a daily dose of metacam but now I only give it to her when she gets bad. Otherwise the shot definatley helps.
