Tracing a Gun

Just wondering if there's any semi accurate way of tracing a gun. IE where it came from etc.

I have an older S&W revolver that I think may have been used by the Canadian Forces in WWII but I'm not totally sure. Is there any way to find out?

Does your revolver have Cdn. property marks? If it was actually issued, it would have these marks.

Most of the markings are pretty faint.

It's a Smith revolver calibered in 38 S&W. Variant of a model 10 called 38 hand ejector victory. Serial starts with V which means build date was 1940-45 and was a part of the lend lease program as far as I know.

The factory letter which is available (at a price) for most models will tell which wholesaler or military depot it went to. After that, one would be lucky to find anything.
