Loaded up some 286gr Hornady's with 57gr RE:15 then proceeded to go up to 58gr and watched the groups tighten.Got a 7/8" group for a hunting rifle so I may just go with that as the recoil with the plastic recoil pad is stiff.Using Lapau brasss and Fed mag primers.............Harold .....C.O.A.L. 3.21"

Don't own a chrony but according to the books should be around 2300+fps or so?It's wearing high Weaver extention rings[to clear the bolt] and a 4x Leupold for glass.I won't be putting a variable on as it's for hunting not target shooting and this is as good as it gets with my middle aged eyeballs and 4X.Need a narrow European style leather sling now.Not some of the plastic/cloth cheapo ones seen around lately......Now I'd like either a hinged floorplate or replace the missing capture screws.None when I bought it?It did have a timney with side safety though................It'll get blooding come fall.................may look for a lighter grain bullet for deer.Would like to swage my own someday.............Harold
 
I have a Stiga M-96 from Tradex in 9.3x62. Im keeping it with open sights for bush hunting. Ive only killed Frozen juice jugs and Winshield Washer containers...seems more than adequate so far

Ive been playing with 270 Gr. speer bullets and Blc-2......the plastic butt may need to replaced...we will see.

With a load of 58 gr of RL15, Lapua brass and CCI200 primers, I'm getting 2350 fps out of a 21.5" barrel. Figure on about 20-25 fps gain per inch if you're barrel is longer.

A really nice touch on these rifle is to have the bolt handle cut off and replaced with a low profile, Talley-style handle. The one on my 9.3X62 98 cast less than $100.00 and my most recent one was just over $100.00.
 
Mine does pretty well with 59.5gr of RL15 pushing 286 Norma (Alaska?) RNs. Getting around 2350 - 2370 FPS. My rifle has a slightly large chamber so I'm neck sizing only. I'm also using Magnum primers, which I always do in 30-06 type cases for more reliable cold weather ignition. I kept the open sights for a more traditional look and added a NECG Madterpiece front sight and custom built the rear sight to be filed to regulate with my chosen load. I also restocked it with a stock from Brownells and added a Pachmeyr medium recoil pad. Now it's pretty much perfect.
 
Lighter bullets........Harold, time for you to get a 222 or 223 die, trim it down so it will work as a swage when you push 375 225gr through and make it match your new toy. I know you don't get over to pro boards much, some of the boys over there are having great success with it.
 
Who said I'm into the light bullets? I'm using the 285gr Lapuas when I get my old girl up and running. It would be sacrilege to run spire points in that gun.

I tried 232gr Normas in factory loads I got with my ZG47 and they suck big time. I'd put them in the same category as NBT's, SGK's and the Factory cheap FC projectiles. They vaporized in the same medium 270gr Speers held up quite well in.
 
Finally, someone putting a picture up here. I was about to go crazy. I am pretty sure my next rifle is gonna be a x62, but a couple more pictures may well put me over the edge.
I have been scouring the trade ex site for months, just waiting for the right time to pull the trigger.
 
Maybe I'll change the bolt shroud to the Win 70 wing type? Will the Timney sportsman fit the FN 98? As for swaging 225gr [Hornady] .375's in a .222/.223 die at least they come 100 to a box and I trust them to hold together on game.Where did you get your bolt replacement? .......................Harold
 
Of all places from my Great Uncle's gun safe. He has an old beater 8x57J sitting in there with a lovely little bolt that fit with minimal work. I would prefer a round bolt knob for a bear gun but this little butterknife suits the gun quite well.

Another nice thing about swaging 375's is they are easier to find than the 9,3s can be.
Trade Ex has those 70 style safeties........ anyone try them yet?

I bought one of their safeties awhile back. Unfortunately it was junk. The pivot screw was nowhere near flush and the shaft was so long, it was impossible to re-assemble the bolt.

Anthony was excellent to deal with. I returned the safety and he immediately credited my Visa the full amount including all shipping.
