I have an 1896 Swedish Mauser (6.5 x 55) and I would like to order a taller front sight (from Tradex) to bring my point of impact down. The front sight on my rifle is marked -0.5 and with the rear sight set as low as it goes, my poi is approximately 7" to 11" high at 100 yards (depending on load and/or bullet weight). Would someone be able to tell me what the markings on the front sight (+.25, +.75, +1.0, etc.) mean and/or suggest which front sight would get me on target??

Your -0.5(mm below standard issue) front sight be about 0.195" tall blade
You need minimum 1mm higher(.0254")
0.195" + 0.0254" =.220.4"
So you need to replace with +0.5 fs to get 0.235"

Have you thought about using a 6 o"clock hold? With a 14" diameter black circular target with 6 o'clock hold you'd be right on.

Thanks for the reply. Re using a larger target and 6 o'clock hold . . . I've done that sort of thing, but for the price of the Tradex front sight ($8.00), I'd like to try and get my point of aim and point of impact the same.
