So, on monday afternoon, as I sat with a friend on the internet surfing around,
I placed an order to Tradex for a High wall receiver Mosin Nagant M91/30 as well as a Tokarev TT33.

He responded to my several pre-deal-question emails EXTREMELY fast,
always with detailed, helpful information.

He selected the rifle (and apparently the pistol, havent got it yet) from his stock according to a couple conditions I had,
and the price was right, for both the rifle and the pistol, and the accessory packs that came with both (lanyard, holster, two mags, bayo, etc etc etc) and shipping, it came to something like 540..

Rifle came today, a couple days later,
wonderfully packaged and exactly as I wanted.

I spend a little while cleaning it up, scratching off the spats of laquer that were on the retention bands and so on,
cleaned it, dissasembled the bolt, cleaned that, oiled it all up, reassembled..
perfect bore...
.. poured boiling water over the oilcan/caps and the finnish mosin's can as well, since I was doing it anyway.. (gross procedure..but oh boy is it satisfying seeing that burnt orange smelling goo melt away to the underworld)

I'm extremely happy with my dealings with Tradex. I'm sure I'll buy from them again.

Here's a couple pictures, of the M91/30 while I opened it up, and the shiny oil cans after the boiling water cleaning.-

The M91 I'm (of course) leaving how it is,
the M91/30 I'm making into a PU sniper.

Getting a bolt from Boltman, and the optics and mount from Kalinka.

I'll of course post when that's done!

Happy camper happy camper..

That 91/30 is almost too nice to turn into a sniper :) If you do go that route, consider sending Jim the original bolt. Then the numbers will at least match when you are done.

Jim?
is jim "Boltman?"
yeah I was thinking about that. (the send your bolt, modify option)
but.. i dunno.
I'm a compartmentalist haha and I really think I prefer to have two bolts, the original straight, and the bent sniper,
so I can take off the mount, put the straight back in, and use it as an infantry thing..

But I'm still considering it.
Thanks for the comment
It is extremely nice.
I had confidence it would be nice, but at the same time, i was worried that it would be crummy. (never bought a refurbished mosin before.)
it is reaaaally lovely though.
but I can't leave it alone...I'll end up getting mosins every week and then deciding theyre too nice to convert to a sniper! hahaha

I want my sniper to be nice anyway, :D

Gotta get into re-enactment!!
is there a soviet group in the Toronto area? or am I gonna have to move to the states! hahaha

If you're going to drill the receiver anyway, why hold on to the original bent bolt? Even if you take off the scope and put it back to "infantry condition" it'll still be drilled.

Very nice looking rifle tho, can't wait for pics of the TT33.

thats a good point, and I did think of that.
i'd have a normal rifle but with holes and the slot in the wood...but then again..both of those things are against my body while..standing etc..

but like

EVEN so..
the discount for using your own bolt is only like..10 bucks..
and for me the numbers being on the bent bolt isnt a big deal.

...
that is what you meant by "match the bolt" right?

I'll post pics of the TT33 right when it arrives!

BBQ,

Wow! Nice Nagant - makes me want to order one also!:)

Tradex is great. I got a very nice TT33 from them, as well as a very nice Swedish ammo belt. I look forward to dealing with them again also.

I like your idea of getting and extra bolt for 'sniper days', and keeping your original bolt for 'infantry days'.

I love Tradeex Also. Very quick service. I bought one of my first guns there and im just waiting for the right inventory to come in to make my next purchace from them.

Very nice Rifles you got there,

Hey Steiner, did you get to try the M44 yet?? :D

Nice looking rifles both of them. How is the bore on the 91/30 ? Just to be on the safe side it might be worth shooting it whatever it's like before spending any money on it.

With regard to the bolt handle it would probably be cheaper to get it modified here in Canada. If you do a drill and tap job ( easy to do ) as I did on mine you would only need the original bolt body for both bent and straight : ) configurations. Just unscrew the bent bolt handle and screw in the straight one. If it is done properly it looks like a factory job, there should be no unsightly welds or visible joins.

I'm thinking about that

would any gunsmith do that?

I need a gunsmith to put the scope mount base on and inlet the wood etc anyway

anyone recommend one near toronto-barrie ish that will do this when it's time?

btw, the bore is MINTY!

-Derek

You do not need to find a gunsmith to do this for you, any engineer should be able to do it as well as any gunsmith. It's really not difficult for anyone to do if they take their time over it.
As far as the inleting of the stock goes this is simplicity its self, all you have to do is put the action in the stock with the mount base installed and mark where the mount base sits, then carefully remove the wood with a rasp a bit at a time until it's a snug fit. It does not take long.

Damn you! After several rifles and shotguns from them, I have promised myself to take a break from ordering more guns from Tradeex! Now you have me itching for another......... must.....control.....the.....urge......

Oh well, at least in another several weeks I should be able to give them my business again. While not $80-$100 milsurps from the past, Tradeex has some very nice guns for very reasonable prices. Now I have to figure out which Mosin to get next......

Congrats with your new toy!

Frank

Thanks!!

I'll definately buy from them again.

maybe my next buy will be a K98..
I really should get one,
I always say I will, then shy away, possibly out of shame from my fallen comrades of old!

If they had a winchester 94 trench gun (or norinco or whatever,) i'd want that..
i really do need one of those.
