Trading guns in at Epps?

I had a high end rifle on here for two months at 2000.00 and not even a sniff sent it to Epps and they sold it in less than 3 days for way more than I was asking on here.

I can buy used gun cheaper at EPP than EE here. their service are top notch. last week I miss a 1911 Nor commander by several hours and it was $299 in excellent conditions.

Wes, Kevin and the crew must like you or hate me :(since that never happens for me. Bought 8 off them last year all more money than I would have paid on the EE if they were listed there. Not to mention the way Epps rapes you for shipping:eek:

As has been said before; EPPS is a for profit business. If you have a problem with their margins simply toss them a condom before starting a transaction or threaten them with a paternity suit. Let me know how that goes.:adult:

That's $299 plus shipping plus 12 % tax, right? So about $360, I seen them on the EE at least once/week for $300 inc all, you have to watch the EE and not only once/day. The good deals are there all the time.

Last week were 2 x Norcs 213 in 9mm for $200/set, sold within 30 minutes and was removed pretty fast. When you look now, there is one for $200, it's all a question of perspective.

Cheers

Trade ins at Epps

I feel that Epps is more than fair with their trade in policies. If you do not agree with the trade in price, no one forces you to accept it.
If you deal on the forum for guns that are worth a few hundred dollars, and you are not employed so you can sit at home and look at all the low ball responses to your post, and you can track everything at all times because you do not have work getting in the way, than the forum is perfect for selling your guns for what you have into them.
If you are like most people who have higher end guns, or are interested in something more than a $200 SKS you might not be able to send someone the cash electronically for a gun worth more money without breaking it up into smaller amounts. Money orders cost money to get, and personal cheques cost time to clear before your gun arrives. At Epps you can get money for the guns you no longer use, no matter what their value, and if you need to you can also pay for something with a credit card which is safe.
In my dealing with people on this forum more than half had problems.
I purchased a gun worth almost $3000 and had to wait a few weeks for my cheque to clear, the transfer and shipping. When I recieved the gun, it was in a cardboard box. The gun weighed about 28 pounds, and the only thing that kept it from falling out was the cocking handle punching through the cardboard. I was lucky that the post office taped the box back together and asked me to pick it up.
I also got completely ripped off from Jeremy who has been banned from this forum for ripping off a few other people.
Two purchases that did go well were still time consuming and there was no ability to really keep in contact with the sellers other than hoping that they would respond to my PM.
Epps offers a thirty day warranty on used guns, they insure the shipping on your package, they wrap all guns carefully, you can get in touch with them during business hours by phone, fax, or email. They accept credit cards. People can come and look at the guns in the store and handle them there if the want to. If you sell privately people can trace your information from your phone number, name or address which can put your firearms at risk from being stolen.
The biggest thing is, if you are not happy with the ammount that you are offered in trade in, than do not accept it and move on.

I love Epps....never had a negative dealing with them, and I have bought alot, all from out of province

To me trading your guns in at a dealer is not much different than handing it over to a pawn shop for quick cash, the difference in value is well worth the wait and "inconvenience" of the EE route.

While we do accept used firearms as sale, trade or consignment guns, the values are based upon current retail values for new guns at a fair percentage for a used model. For example, a Remington rifle that sells new for $500.00 and is shown to be in Excellent to Very Good condition (see our ratings guide under the Firearms Conditions tab located on the left-hand side of our web pages) would be listed for approximately $400.00 as a used gun.

Whether the rifle has had one round or one hundred rounds through it (no guns is ever UNFIRED, although we hear that all the time --- all guns are test fired at the factory, just like all cars are run with several kilometers on the odometer, even when new!), the firearm must be considered Used, as the warranties are not transferrable to second owners. Therefore the used retail pricing is usually a percentage of the new value of that same, or near-identical model.

For older used gun, the values are always driven by overall condition and market demand for that particular firearm. For example, a minty Pre-64 Winchester 1894 would fetch approximately $500.00 -- $800.00 as a used gun, while a moderate-condition Post-64 would sell from $300.00 -- $500.00.

These are examples only, and may not reflect the actual values of any particular firearm without proper inspection and appraisal.

Please note that we CANNOT provide values for used firearms over the telephone. We must inspect all firearms to determine their conditions before we can apply a value to that gun. The average owner's version of Like New or Very Good is often drastically different than the real condition once the gun is examined at our store. We WILL NOT provide values on speculation over the telephone!

Once we have established a Used Retail Value for any firearm, the following options apply:

If you are Selling a firearm to us, we offer 60% of the appraised retail value, payable by cheque only.

If you are Trading a firearm to us, we offer 70% of the appraised retail value, payable as an in-store account which can be used to purchase any item in our inventory, or to order any item not currently in stock.

If you are Consigning a firearm through our store, we offer 80% of the appraised retail value if that value is less than $1,000.00, or 85% of the appraised retail value if that value is greater than $1,000.00. These amounts are payable by cheque only once the consignment firearm has been sold.

If you wish to sell or trade any firearm, we require the following information:

* your full name
* your address with postal code
* your telephone number with area code
* your PAL license number with expiry date
* the Registration Certificate for the firearm(s) in question
* your place (city) of birth [for Internet transfer]

Of course you are always encouraged to seek the best value you can find for any used firearm you might wish to sell, but we do firmly believe that we offer reasonable and fair rates to our customers for their guns, and that we maintain fair and competitive prices on not only our used inventory selections, but on our new guns as well.

Considering Epps is doing all of the legwork and assuming a portion of risk by holding and paying interest the firearm as inventory, this is truly a remarkable program, especially if you are wishing to trade up into a +$1000 gun w/cash plu
.
With that being said, 60% of actual market value payable by cheque-- Find a pawnshop or a fencing outfit that would do better. . .

You may be more in luck with the smaller dealer, but the truth be told, the small dealer isn't going to have the inventory like Epps, or the purchasing power like Epps or small dealer doesn't have the cash outlay to hold large amounts of inventory.

The EE is a great marketing tool is still amazingly free considering the value it offers each and every person who has purchased items on it. With that being said, it is alot of work in some instances to buy or sell items because of tire kickers etc, but that all reverts back to how you are able to obtain a higher value for your product because you have a larger captive audience that knows your product is available. Their is always a few turds in the milk. . . Bad analogy but I think you get the point. An audience is always with a cost, but can make you great money in the long runespecially in sales!

When you bring in a gun to Epps, they will tell you straight up what they will sell it for. You then get your 70% of that. If you're buying something else you will also save the tax on that amount. You won't have to worry about dealing with some unknown individual on the opposite coast, or arranging payment from him to you, or packing/shipping/insuring the gun to deliver it to him. You walk in with your old gun, you walk out with cash or your new gun, no hassles or headaches.

If you have a good general idea of what used guns are selling for, I think you'll find that the prices they quote are pretty much spot on. Sure, they are going to take their percentage off the top. Do you expect them to work as a charitable institution? This is business.

As for not being like car dealerships...duh! Why the hell would you want them to be? When a car dealership gives you "top dollar" for your trade, or some other so-called freebie, don't kid yourself...it's all coming out of the exhorbitant mark-up on the car that you are buying. Don't believe me? Try walking into a car dealer just to sell your old car, without buying anything. They won't tell you what it will sell for, but they will do their level best to steal it from you for peanuts. Strictly buyer beware.

Time is money. It's harder to put a value on a seamless, easy and quick business transaction, but that value does exist. I don't mind paying Epps (or any other shop that I trust) for that.

Some of the naysayers here remind me of a guy I work with. He can quote you the exact gasoline prices at every gas station in the GTA. He will sit in a filling station parking lot 25 kilometers from home at 3:00 a.m. with empty gas cans in his trunk, because he knows that at 3:01 the prices will go down by one half cent per litre. Then he will fill up and drive home practically sporting a woodie because he's so excited about the buck and a half that he just "saved".:)

To each his own!

generally, yeah you won't get as much as you would on the EE or other private sale.

I once sold a gun to P&D for more than I paid for it new...that was a good day, could have got alot more in a private sale but it was conveiniant.

I like shops that have trade ins, especially when i can get rid of rifles I don't want for something new, or toward it. Found lots of guns that way.

Another possibility when it come to selling a gun other than trade in or consignment is auction, there are several auction outfit in Ontario specialize in firearms auction, the fee is between 10-25% of the price realized in the auction depending on the outfit. Of course its a matter of luck when it come to auction, sometimes excellent collectable guns go for a song, other times with several bidder trying to out bid each other, a used gun may sold for almost the price of a new one.

In general most people attending the auction are fairly knowledgeable, so the price usually reflect the market value, minus the fee, you may still come out ahead then selling it to a gun shop.

Through the past few years, I have traded quite a few firearms thru Epps and Williams Arms at Port Perry. They are nice guys and honest to the deal. Of course, don't expect too much on your trade. Now, I start using the EE here and men, lots of works, as you need to keep track of your PM everyday, and, a lot of guys say l like it, but then no response for 3-4 days. Since you don't want to upset anyone here, you have to be patient, very patient! Having said that, there are a lot of good friends here who buy and sell in an excellent way. That's why, slowly and gradually, you'll sell your soul in this forum...
