Does anyone know why they are no longer made? How long were they made for? I bought one (brand new) 2 years ago. Lost interest in it befor i even fired it. Sold it last year. The new owner is looking for any info on them. He would like to know if there were any problems with them. What brand of bullets + grain seems to fire the best grouping with 2/50g pyrodex pellets? Thanks in advance.

eastwind,

I have a traditions lighting in stainless and with the 209 primer system. I tried at first shooting the XTP bullets and had terrible results making them group. I contacted precision rifle ( www.prbullet.com ) in southern manitoba and the guy there recommended shooting their 330gr Extreme bullets. My groups are alot better than what they were - I think about 2-3" at 100yds. Every deer shot with this bullet in front of 2 50gr pyrodex pellets has resulted in dead animals on the spot. good luck.

I think the reason they are no longer made is just that Traditions decided to change the model range to better fit what they thought buyers wanted. So the Tracker is now their "low price is everything" entry level model, and they brought in E-bolt, Thunderbolt, and Evolution models because everyone was doing bolt action and now the Pursuit models because break-action is the latest thing.

The Traditions Lightning simply put was a high end e-bolt (aluminum ramrod, metal sights, longer bbl). I have owned both a lightning and e-bolt and have now switched to the evolution due to the newer "#### on open" as opposed to "#### on close" inherent to the afore mentioned.
The biggest problem with all the traditions bolt guns is the wimpy plastic stock. These must be pillar bedded to get any kind of decent accuracy out of these guns. Once bedded all my guns shot 1-1.5" @ 100 yrds using 90 grns Pyrodex or 777 under a .44 240 XTP with a magnum research sabot (do not use hornady sabots as they are crap and cause a lot of flyers)

BP hunting choice

I have a nice 50 cal. TC Hawkin, but would like to know what would be a decent choice for a hunting BP rifle-specifically action, ignition system, etc.Do break actions have any advantage over bolt actions or drop actions?
