Having purchased my first Anschutz rimfire, a 1968 model 1408 only a few months ago, I have developed a real interest in the Anschutz match rimfires. A few weeks ago, I purchased a 1907 Repeater as well.
I have no plans of ever mounting a scope on the 1408, because I am enjoying learning to use the match sights. I have pulled off a couple of 50 yard, five shot groups measuring .380" and .420" shooting S K Standard Plus, but my average group is still in the 1/2" to 5/8" range with the match sights. My goal is to get the groups consistently under 1/2" at 50 yards with the match sights.
On the other hand, the 1907 makes sub .300" five shot groups at 50 yards routine, with several groups in the .200" range. My goal with this rifle is to accomplish sub .2" groups at 50 yards, and groups in the 1/2" range at 100 yards, although this will likely require slightly better ammunition.
So far, I like both rifles, but for very different reasons, the 1907 for sheer accuracy, and the 1408 because it is so traditional in design.
Both rifles were purchased on the CGN EE.
