I am wondering where the best place for price to get batteries is? Also from what I am reading is that lithium batteries are better in the cold. Is this true? What brand and type of batteries does everyone recommend?
 
I normally just get the biggest cheapest bulk pack of the high output batteries I can find, the ones that are geared towards digital cameras. Lately it's been energizers, but I've used Duracell before as well, just avoid the dollar store cheapos.
 
I use energerizers. Can't remember the exact name but they are chrome and have a light blue lettering on them an they're like $4 a piece but they last all winter and will take thousands of pix. They even worked when my camera got submerged on a ditch bank
 
Lithium batteries cost a hell of a lot more, but also last a lot longer, and they will work at temps a regular battery won't touch. Some of our cameras will last a year on Lithiums, but cameras are not all equal in that regard. I have one camera that eats even lithiums in a few weeks. Lithiums also provide a higher voltage, that means a better flash, and better photos at night.
I want to get some converters so I can run them in cameras that are set up for C cells. I might just wrap some in cardboard to try it.

Lithiums never seem to come on sale, but you can sometimes find online prices that are better than Canadian Tire.
 
As JYC said, lithium batteries ALL the way! I run SpyPoint cams & they take 6 AA batteries, but with the lithiums I can run them OVER 1 year & they are left out that entire time.

Here's a pic of a buck we were chasing at the end of the season several years ago, during the late season archery season. We never got him, but we got pics! Notice it was -17 C in the pic, and my cams have taken pics into the -20's.

I just use the energizer alkaline bulk packs. Seem to have no problem getting 6+ months out of them (typically 300 pictures in a week normal season, and 200+ pictures a night for a couple months once deer feed goes out), and I have had pictures taken at night of pine marten where the temperature was -35 deg C. Lithium is likely better, I just haven't had a need for them yet. Leave mine out all year in NWO.
 
I just checked home depot by my place 4 in a pack were $14.98. Not sure what is a good deal on these. I was hoping Costco to have them but they just have the alkaline ones in larger packages.
 
buy my alkaline duracells at costco 48 packs, when they go on sale. $20? just watch they seem to go on sale once a month.
my cams work for 3-6 months or more on them, just depends on how many pics you are taking. I got the sensitivity up pretty high so the grass moving is setting it off all the time when the wind blows.
 
If your camera has the plug in for a auxiliary battery that is absolutely the best way to go.

All of mine (put out 4 or 5 camera's) are run off 12 or 20 AH 12 volt batteries - one charge usually lasts the entire season (for me that means out in September in prep for early bow and I take them in when it's too cold to sit in December during the late bow if I still have a tag left).

I recharge them with one of those cheapy trickle charges that crappy tire puts on sale for 10 bucks a few times a year. The batteries themselves were sourced from Princess Auto for under 20 bucks.

Been running the same half dozen batteries for going on six seasons now - a whole lot cheaper than the throw-away AA's and never end up with dead batteries when I show up to check the camera's.
 
I seen the heading and cringed....... pet hates for TCs... batterys!

my bushnells all take 8 each.... altho a min of 4. gets expensive, they don't see much day light

I run 3 different models of the Bushnell trophy cams and they will run 5-6 months without needing to be recharged, depending on how many pics they take. People claim they are the same batteries as these, just rebadged.
