I have a Moutrie D40 trail camera. It works really well and I like the results that I get from it but was wondering if anyone had tryed to use a standard small 12v photocell and battery combo to power the unit? ( How were the results?) instead of buying the $85 moultrie unit?

I don't know about your camera's...but I have an I50 that has taken probably 1800+ pics on the 1st set of batteries.
So I'm not about to try something different. Let me know how it works though. :)
PS I'm going to post cool pics in the photo gallery tonight.

I agree that IR is easier on the power but with a regular unit that works well just change to a larger battery. I use a small marine battery that lasts forever it seems. A smaller battery like from a atv or lawn tractor also works well and can be bought for around $25 on sale at walmart.

just plug the 12v car battery into the solar panel plug in area?? this works OK?

Got this from a guy call "inspector" on the chasing game forum. He wires it to a stealthcam battery but any 12V will work fine.

Available at Radio Shack. Part no. 273-1743 AND 273-1720
Easy no solder connectors. I hooked mine to a Stealth 12V battery. I guess this might void the Moultrie warranty since this is not their battery but this is the chance you take. It has not caused any ill effects on my camera so far.

Center post is pos. I use a volt meter to keep it straight.
