(I also posted this at "long-range.com". For what it's worth, I was originally going to title this thread "Training Camp in Drag" at 2010 Canadian Championships? but I chickened out.)

I recently took the following thoughts:

  • "We never have enough team shooting opportunties"
  • "We have even fewer team training opportunities"
  • "...and even fewer opportunities to do so with a national assembly of our shooters"
  • "A whole lot of people are going to be in Ottawa firing Warmups as they get ready to shoot our Championships"

I just put up a blog post at dcraprogramme.########.com with some thoughts on how we might offer the opportunity for shooters and teams to do a "build your own training camp" on top of the first two days of warmup matches at our Canadian Championships. Though I would be most happy to see "the opposition" take full advantage of this, if pressed I will maintain the position that I am doing this out of strictly selfish thoughts for the Canadian WLRC Teams training system... ;-)

I would love to hear peoples' thoughts on this....?

Dan,
I think it is a great idea. It might allow us to find some hidden talent. I am sure there a plenty of good trigger pullers out there that just might not be able to read wind. On the other hand there may be shooters out there that read the wind very well but are not so good behind the butt.

If we were to take some of our top coaches and put them into the plotters chair instead of the coaches chair we might find a whole new coaching staff for future international events.

I know that Daniel is privvy, but the concept of regionalization of shooting teams, matches and talents is a big first step.

I could not agree more that some of our best talent will not be in Ottawa. I don't want to flog that topic to death, but the reality is that it is too much of a logistical and financial hardhsip to attend the National Chamionships for 100% of our BC shooters. The exception being Paul Reibin.

I am still working on a western Canadian championship F-class only match. Keep your eyes peeled!

Ian
