I live in BC and my friend lives in Manitoba he comes to town, about 4 times a year.

Last time he was here he got a membership to one of the ranges in the Greater Vancouver Area and applied for an ATT for this province. Yes he is ATTed in Manitoba.

While he was here he sees a handgun he really liked and I put it on my RPAL just so he can store it locally with me.

Once his ATT passes, what are the steps to get it back to him, so he can travel back home with it?

Never sold or given a gun before.

Thanks in advance for the info

Ok here are the options...

to transfer it you simply call 1 800 731 4000 1 then 4 2 (then 1 for new I think listen to it)

They will transfer it and you have a few options 1 he waits for it to be approved then they give him a Short term transport to take it home ie he driving home or you mail it to him in which case you need a short term ATT to the post office to mail it. (Or you make them pick it up at your house) Then not paperwork required to ship.

Anyone can borrow a firearm if they have the same class on their firearms licenses so he could in theory borrow the firearm till the transfer is done and ask for a short term to take it home driving through all the provinces on the way ie he has to speak with all of them I think (pain in the ass)

They don't like people lending firearms out they get very pissy about it in fact. I found they speed up the transfer when I said I'll just loan it to them short term please. They go its still in your name I reply so what I just go this person has it problem solved..

I moved and asked for a shorterm to move that was a pain in the rear as well they didn't give it to me on time so I just left the guns behind they freaked out big time on that one. The guy told me why didn't you move them anyways I replied because I need to move the safe they're in at the same time unbolt it and lug it out I took all the non restricted firearms already because I can legally move them around. I know 1 full auto guy that they didn't give it to them so he told them they can explain to the new home owners why he left it behind they gave it to him right on the spot after that. (it was about to make news) Can you imagine machine gun left behind by owner because he can't legally move it (they told him to do it anyways but his friend was charged when they found out he did that with out getting paperwork to move it) So he went hell no I want my papers please.

Bought a pistol in Alberta a few years ago and got a statt for a week to bring it home (Manitoba) from cfo no spesific route was very easy.

The BC CFO will issue you a STATT to take the gun back to Manitoba. It is not necessary to contact each provincial CFO. Under the lending provision there is nothing wrong with getting a STATT to go to the post office and mail it to him along with a copy of the registration certificate while you wait for the transfer to go through - I just biught a revolver and it took three weeks for the paper work to go through. The seller lent me the gun once he received payment while we waited for the transfer to go through.

With the wait times beginnning to stretch out to 3 - 4 weeks I think you will see more private sales being handled as above. Our shooting season is so short waiting, what amounts to a quarter of the season for some areas if Canada is beyond a PITA.

Take Care

Bob
