Hi folks,

Noobie here!

So I've tried searching the forum and reading the FA act for this one with no luck so here goes ;)

So if I have purchased a restricted firearm and all my other paperwork is done, am I *legal* to transport without the *physical* reg. cert?

I only ask because I see others mention how they keep a photocopy of the cert. with them (perhaps this is a 'least amount of hassle from law enforcement' option?)

Thanks.

Summary of Key Requirements
•You require a firearms licence that is valid for restricted firearms in order to possess or acquire a restricted firearm and to obtain ammunition.
You require a registration certificate issued under the Firearms Act for all firearms in your possession.
•You require an Authorization to Transport, issued by your Chief Firearms Officer (CFO), in order to transport a restricted firearm from one location to another.
•You must store, display and transport your firearms according to the regulations applying to restricted firearms.

hope that helps

Man I hate this legal crap ;)

The transfer was completed yesterday by the CFC and they issued a short term ATT, but would the seller hold the reg. or does a new reg. need to be printed and mailed to me?

I just find it funny that the seller is allowed to mail the stuff out and potentially I receive it before I have the paper reg. in my hands, but could I get tangled in some legal mess for not having the paper reg. while transporting and yet still be the owner of the firearm and having the paper reg. 'in the mail'?

So yes, I'm a noobie, and a confused one at that...

The old one is invaild and you need a new one

So I ended up calling the CFO who said that all details required will be with the vendor (it's a store) and that I am OK to take it home from the vendor, but not to the range until the reg. cert arrives in the mail.

I noticed this info. on the rcmp website

The new owner can take physical possession of the firearm as soon as the CFP transfer agent provides them with their new registration certificate number. The registration certificate will then be mailed to the new owner within a few weeks.
