our old trap machine threw birds hard left and right and straight aways at an upward angle.in doubles it threw the right bird descent but did'nt throw the left one worth^%$%$#. in singles it threw the birds about 40 to 50 yards.we just got a new 2nd hand western flyer trap machine and the birds are going at mach 1.they are rising twice as far as our old one and the birds are now landing about 60 to 70 yards away.what are all those numbered holes on top that we put a big knurled nut in to connect the throwing arm to?we are using #5.HELP HELP HELP PLEASE?

If this is the old Western electric trap machine....you back off the mainspring at the bottom front of machine....then set the knurled nut into #1 hole...move tab (white plastic) on throwing arm until target throws straight away.....You have now centered the field.....set machine to #2 hole for regulation trap target spread. Target should fly 48-52 yards. If you use #3 or higher at some point the birds will hit the house on the way out!! For doubles you use #1 hole but move tab back until targets are equal and tighten up mainspring as both targets must make 48-52 yds. Nothin' to it!
