Trap shells

Hi All,

I’m wanting to get suggestions on affordable, low recoil 12 gauge shells for trap shooting. What’s everyone’s preference.

Low recoil Trap loads are a specialty item, meaning more $.
2 3/4 dram 1 1/8 ounce loads (1145 fps) are the milder load, and Handicap loads are usually 3 Dram (1200 fps).
If you are looking for 1 ounce or less, at lower velocity, you need to look at AA or STS.
Challenger 1 ounce loads are usually 1300 fps and kick just as hard as Handicap loads.

Ive been using Federal top gun 1ounce, 2.75 dram 1180fps in #8 i don't notice that much kick.

Winchester Super Target 1 oz 1180 fps loads are fairly mild recoiling and as cheap as shells get these days. Winchester also makes an AA 26 gram (9/10 oz) load at 980 fps for even lower recoil but they will cost quit a bit more.

Score makes an 1100 fps 1 oz load but I've never tried them, the Score 1200 fps 1oz load is a lot snappier than the 1180 fps Winchester or Federal.

excellent information.
OP check the dram eqv and more importantly the fps of each brand. handicap loads are definitely not low recoil

The Score 1 ounce at 1100 fps should be an excellent mild load for Skeet or 16 yard Trap.

I've been happy with Score ammo. Same with Challenger. Used to be my go-to ammo but for some reason it was hard to find for a while.
