What are the best trap shells for the $$. 12&20 guage? Last ones were pretty dirty but don’t need high end shells for trap

Whatever is on sale.
I do tend to avoid the Winchester super targets, though.

By the way, why did this thread get moved to the "Hunting and sporting shoguns" category?
Someone just couldn't bear for it to be in the general firearms discussion, but didn't move it to the ammunition, or trap/skeet/sporting section?
Seems rather pointless to me.

For cheap shells I find Federals work great but they are kind of dirty if that bothers you. One of the cleanest shells I've found are Win Super Targets and I've shot probably hundreds of thousands of those with no problems other than the odd dud but it's been a long time since I saw one of those.
Pretty much any cheap shell will work for trap but I'd definitely move up to a premium shell like AA or STS for serious competition.

Remington makes a cheap target shell, they were $109 a flat for 12ga, the winchesters were $111 a flat for 12 and 20ga. Winchesters available in a lite and xtra lite version 1200 and 1180fps respectively. The same winchesters were almost $150 at another shop. We shoot 7 1/2 and 8 shot. Challenger 20ga #8s are cheap too.
I only fired about 20 boxes of the winchester this year and 6 boxes of the challenger but no problems at all. I've heard the remmingtons have the occasion 1 per 1000 rounds that's a dud. Still, cheap as chips.

Federal top guns and winchester super targets are what I shoot most of, I do still have some STS and AA that I will burn up in the coming season, I have also shot a bunch of Challenger, Rio and Clever all of which are just fine, I burn up close to 10,000 rounds a year so pretty much shoot whatever I get the best deal on.
