Awesome stuff!! I really miss days on the trapline. Between bug kill and logging, the marten are nearly non existent on my line. I sure hope they come back some day. Good luck this winter!

reb, what are marten prices like this year?
I didn't trap this fall because of various reasons so I'm just curious, thanks.

From what I have heard about 50ish
Lynx are supposed to be up and Coyotes are in the toilet 20 to 30

Out again today checking a few Lynx sets with the wife along.trap 2023 7.jpgtrap 2023 6 (2).jpgtrap 2023 5 (2).jpg

Fur is all thawed, skinned and boarded.
Marten are XL and large.
Lynx are extra large.
Off to a good start hopefully our luck holds.trap 2023 # 8 (2).jpg

Nice work!! Can always tell when a guy goes the extra mile with his fur. I really like the marten, love those dark ones!!

Do you pin the back legs to the front of your board on your marten? I’m not sure how true this is, just something I was taught. If a guy pins the legs on the side of the board, I was told it adds a little fullness to the back of the pelt. Not saying you need to do that!! Your job looks terrific, just another thing for the box of tricks. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks
I do the back legs to the front of the board (belly ) but I also do the top of the back with 3 pins on each side of the tail.
To me fur handling is critical to getting top dollar for your harvest.

I think I'll set my martien boxes this year, you've inspired me. It's easy enough, I even left the Belisle's dangling. I sort of lost my heart for it when Nafa's cheques bounced awhile back, and just did my bounty beaver/bear bait/ castor line. Got screwed on the castors too. :)

I should try to choke at least one cougar too, its not like there aren't lots of them. I've tired of bear trapping, too much like work. Cool experience for awhile though.

Question; what's your favourite marten lure?
