Trapping

Hey there,

So, I was looking to get into trapping. Hunting for an instructor or course close by it's looking to be a little difficult.

I was wondering if anyone on here from Southern Ontario also traps? Or knows where courses might be held for next year?

In Alberta one has to have a trappers license. The license lists the land that one can trap on.

The MNR in Ontario is the place to start your research.

Read the website, and then get the appropriate literature from the right people

You have to do the required course before you can send in for your license. I wanted to see if it was even a possibility to take the course in Southern Ontario, because from what I could find everything is north of North Bay.

Did you contact your local MNR office or the fur managers federation like the site suggests?

Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay used to do a trapping course every once in a while (I did mine in '07). Might want to contact them. If they dont anymore, call the Ontario Fur managers Federation, theyll point you in the right direction. Lots of trappers in southern ON, they didnt go north of north bay to do the course.

I guess I was looking in all the right places, I'll make a few calls tomorrow. I was hoping there was some kind of directory I was missing like they have for Hunter's Ed.

Should anyone be interested, Saps Fur (Trapping Supplies) in Orillia lists two people who do trapper education courses.

One is in Sutton, the other in Manilla.
