Hello, I'm thinking about flying by myself to Fort St John for the June 22 and 23 qualifiers since most of the ones around Vancouver during summer are already full or are on dates when I will not be near Vancouver to attend.

Do you guys have any advice regarding flying to one of these competitions? How to fly with a handgun, how to take ammo for both matches, tips on aerolines or hotel, etc.

Any advice you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I think most airlines have a firearms policy. Look that up. I think you would need an ATT as well... That's a bit of a question because your destination will technically be a range so not sure of ATT requirements for flying. You should call the CFO to see.

Flying is just another form of travel and your ATT attached to your license is all you need, since you are not leaving the Province. West Jet is probably the better choice however don't take their discount airline (Swoop?) as they don't allow firearms, period. Your gun will have to be in a hard case and to avoid a hassle at check in have two bags one for our gun and one for your ammo. You will have to ship ammo to the match as you can only take 5 kilos of ammo with you which is about 350 rounds of 9 mm. Allow an extra hour for check in, in case of hassles at either the check in or oversize. You will have to sign a declaration saying the gun is unloaded.

Kamloops is full.

No big issue give yourself some extra time to go through the paperwork. pretty much $50 fee to travel with a gun, You need to show proff that the handgun is unloaded, in a locked case with a trigger lock. I shipped up my ammunition the last time I flew and it made it much easier.

If you want someone to drive your ammunition up I will be in th elower mainland a couple of weeks before and I am driving to Ft St John for the match so I could carry your ammunition.

Funny enough, Kamloops ended up with some open spots. People tend to back out as the date gets closer. Next time, try asking the person who takes the money and registers you if there are possibly any open spots.
