Looking for a hard travel case that has the foam inserts that can be cut out so the rifle is set in. Nothing local to me that i can find so online ordering it is. Just looking to narrow my search
Rifle is in a chassis with collapsable buttstock approx 22" barrel. Cant remember the length of the brake. Has a 56mm scope. Bipod and 2 mags.
Doesnt have to be fancy just has to protect the rifle while off roading

I use a Pelican V800 double rifle case comes with foam, perhaps to fancy for your use but they have other cases as well. I never used the foam that it came with that stuff deteriorates over time of use, I went with semi rigid pre cut foam I sourced from the USA. A company called Eaton Tactical Innovations, they make several different styles of semi rigid foam inserts for a plethora of different cases. At an affordable price.

That type of insert is exactly what im looking for but i want it to match the outline of my rifle. Doesnt look look like they sell full sheets i can cut though.
To be honest i cant stand the feel of egg crate foam. Plucking the lil squares would be torture. If i could source some rigid foam sheets i could build my own case or even go hollywood and use a guitar case lol.

Think ima go with either the pelican storm or the 1720. I have to measure my rifle and figure out what all im going to add to it.
Ill look into swapping out the foam sheets if the feel gives me the creeps

Thanks for the replys

Great choice the 1720 is a great case, try the foam out if it doesn't work for you there are always other options. :)

Its soft like the same foam that came in my V800. It's somewhat sturdy

If the foam in the 1720 soft or is it more rigid? Online reviews it looks more closed cell

It is more rigid than soft, if that makes sense lol

If you put a rifle on it (uncut) it will not cave in and hold the rifle's shape and slowly come back up. It's rigid enough to make cutting easy. Shape it how you want it them glue the mid layer (with the cut out) to the bottom layer using the 3M foam adhesive can. It will make removing the rifle easier. You can get away with no gluing the layers, but you'll get annoyed with the mid layer following the gun when you try to remove the rifle from the case.

Thanks. Ill likely get one. I have a bday coming up and ppl say im hard to shop for so i provide a list for the wife. I make it simple. Most are way to expensive i just have to make sure this case in olive green is the cheapest option and generally it all works out. Thanks for help

Look for a Kalispel case; I have 2 that have been to Africa and back as well as all over North America. Scratches on outside but rifles traveled without a bit of problem. The scopes were bang on after arrival and all the handling needed to make the 30 hr flights. Saw one on sight that appeared to be in great shape.

Personally went with a couple of plano's that were weather proof, and had pull out foam instead of a solid block. The pullout foam sucks I'd prefer a solid block, but I'd say overall for $160 each + shipping the two I have were worth it.

Another tip is you an double the capacity of what you can fit in the case by cutting both foam layers and using corrugated plastic sheets that you can buy at Rona or Home Depot, then attach with 3M glue that can be purchased at craft stores like Michaels, etc.

Below are some pics of my multi-gun set up for travelling by air to competitions across North America, also the guitar and band stickers lessen the questions with airport staff, hotels and transportation, it’s also more discrete coming off the airport luggage carousel... well except I get asked for my autograph more often, I am a rockstar after all ;)

I went with the Pelican 1700 for good reason, whole thing fully loaded weighs 45 lbs, that’s important because this bag does not measure oversize nor overweight, for me it’s just another free bag, that really ads up over time.

I like that idea but with the bipod still attached and a 56mm objective and over sized bolt knob not sure if id have enough room under neithe. Be nice if it would work i coukd bring an extra shotgun while hunting. My beretta has its own take down case so i never thought about doubling up.
Dont think theres enough room for 2 chassis style rifles with large scopes but be nice if i could work it. Think id run out of height. Ill see when i get one
