I am a Canadian "Snowbird" that is planning to winter in Arizona this year. My understanding is that I can temporarily import my handguns by filing an application with the American ATF. I am told that I can qualify by registering for competition(s) while in Arizona. A club in Scottsdale tells me I can register for their IPSC monthly competitions and that the proof of registration would qualify with the ATF requirements. Can anyone speak to this from experience or knowledge better than what I have been able to assemble through research?

Hello,

Here's as good a place to start as any: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/form6nia/

search using 6nia and you'll find the info you need in a bunch of threads.

Most guys buy an online hunting licence from a state. Lately, though, I hear that you might want to have proof that you are actually going to that state. Never know, these days.

I remember a year or so ago I was asked what I did for a living. I said "retired teacher". The guy wanted proof. Luckily I had a certain card in my wallet that verified that.

I hope this helps.

everyone is correct - match invite or hunting lic. doesn't hurt to have both. North Dakota is the quickest to get (just print it on line) and the cheapest - here is the link and purchase the General Game for $13. I go to Florida this way
