Just wondering how you IPSC shooters deal with the legalities of traveling with your pistols when competing in matches in other locations within your province.

If you drive out of town and stay at a hotel overnight? What are the storage regulations while away from your home?

The ATT is valid for all approved clubs in the province. It doesn't state anything about hotels, etc, so regular regulations for transporting firearms do apply (unloaded, locked, etc).

I take this to mean that Transportation in an unattended vehicle-
(unloaded, of course, trigger-locked, in locked gun-case or similar case, bolt removed (if applicable), opaque and in locked trunk)
-rules would apply and there is no time limit. So one can spend the night in the hotel and the restricted(s) are legally secured in the unattended vehicle.

From your place to the range, by the most direct route is what is expected. If that involves a stay at a hotel, then that's ok.

As well when we shoot multiple day events out of town. The hotel is considered a temporary residence.

So would you leave the firearm in the vehicle during your stay at the hotel or bring it in the room with you? I understand it would stay overnight legally stored in the vehicle?

nwills, I would recommend you to call CFO and ask them. We can tell you anything here, but it is just someones opinion and interpretation. You can only be certain if you get your information from the source.

As I normally clean my gun from one day to the next, I take them in the room.

You will never sleep as comfortably as you will sharing a room with a few other guys and you all have at least one pistol with you.

The CFO will not give definitive advice. They speak in generalities.............

Exactly.. Your ATT is vague for a reason.

Call me naive, but I bet the CFO isn't concerned about ipsc or any other legal shooter with regards to their travels...
The standard ATT is open ended enough to cover pretty much all/any shooting activities you might find yourself doing...

Sorry if this offends, but... Why can't some guys just read their ATT and take what it says at face value..?
What's written on your ATT is just as important as what is not.
It's pretty simple...
The only thing calling the CFO and pestering them for specific direction will accomplish is.... Well, be careful what you ask for.

CFO is the last place to get good info.

Don't leave you firearms unattended, evry year guys get their guns stolen out of vehicles at the match hotel, take them with you wherever you go, to the room when you are there, in the car trunk when you go out.

Don't leave them in the room when you are out either as many people have access to your room with hotel master keys.

some common sense goes a long ways here.

I actually have 3 ATT's.....one for my province, one for my registered club and one for the rest of Canada and all Canadian borders.

And don't ask why 3 because I don't know and I didn't ask....I used to have one that did the same 3 thing.

All of those require an invitation.

And I keep all my stuff gun/bags ammo in my room.

in your room! Halifax Nationals two years ago i left my gear bag locked in the trunk of the car out of sight. guess what? next morning driver's window kicked out and gear bag with $6000 worth of gear gone!

ATTs are a joke really. Keep your mouth shut, don't wave it around, bring it into the room at night and out at the range and the chances of you being asked for your ATT is about the same as winning the lottery (I am told you have more chances of being hit with lighting then winning the lottery.)

exactly.....keep it in your room. I remember that event at the 2009 Nationals. I called one owner of a toyota who had a bunch of STI mags that were stolen out of his truck. He WAS NOT happy.
