Hey,

Tryed 2 do some research and found little bits and pieces on many sites but
not a very clear answer.

What I was hoping to find out is what's involved in bringing firearms over into the United States? Was planning a trip to Florida as I go every year for vacation

So far I have come up with needing to sign up for match's doing that you must be a member of uspsa.

2nd would be filling out a forum 6nia

3rd an invitation to a match

4th if the airliner I will be taken allows for transporting firearms

Still checking on if I would need to obtain any info from RCMP but I do believe
on the att it mentions you can transport to border crossings (certain ones only)

I also found that before you would need a hunting license to cross but recently they have changed that and its not needed anymore.

Thx for the help...

Sucks when my friends bring golf clubs with them and I sit at the pool all day, want to be able to go on a nice sandy beach in the sun and enjoy the sport I love also.

USPSA should recognize your IPSC membership
Actually, if it's a USPSA rules match; they don't have to.
They are only bound to recognize IPSC membership for matches they run under IPSC rules - and there is only one of those.

A few people found this out at the Florida Open when they were handed USPSA membership applications when they picked up their score sheets a couple years ago.

Joining USPSA is not a bad thing; you get a great magazine out of it.

google lost target form 6. lost target web page is a great resource with firearms over the border. They have a fillable pdf form which makes things easier. If you are shooting club level matches they (USPSA) usually just make you pay the entry fee and your good to go. However I agree with Sean that USPSA is a good thing to join with their great magazine.

I have no power right now so I have to do this by iPhone don't bug me about typos.
Step 1: form6 complete and fax in takes about 1 to 4 weeks no hunting or invite required anymore leave fields blank on form they have not updated it yet
Step 2: you got your approved form6 back apply for your AT&T
Step 2a if you are driving ATt to port of entry or exit
Step 2b if you are fyling ATt up airport
Step 3: if you are bringing NR rifles keep your reg cert for comming back to Canada
Step 3a if you don't have reg cert you will need y83 forms from the cbsa to show the guns are your comming back
Step 4: driving get in car lock guns as per Canada standards go to Florida
Step 5: plane get on plane check firearms

Notes: if flying with lay overs stay out of New York, mass and wash

If driving try to do the same but if you have to you are Portected under firearm owners protection act for interstate travel
Note 2:
Clubs in Florida are open matches find a club near you and print out an invite for th boarder gardes goes faster

Sean, rule 6.4.1 of the current uspsa rulebook says that competitors must be current uspsa or ipsc members for any LII or higher matches. For L1 matches, competitors don't have to be uspsa members. So, most certainly MD was wrong about those membership applications, since if I am not mistaken, Florida Open is a Level 1 match. :)

Their match, their rules. If the match director says "join USPSA or no shoot", then you join USPSA. I'm sure that if you wanted to make a big deal out of it, they'd return your money. Good luck getting the airline and the hotel to do the same. :p

About 12 years ago, I got a life membership for USPSA. Paid itself off a long time ago, I never have to worry about renewals and I get a great magazine every 2 months. I believe it's only $600, too.

True. BTW, this topic was the one I've got a "first warning" ban at GV. :)

Thanks guys! That's a huge help! Really appreciate it.

From lost target website to step by step can't get easier then that. Save me from the cavity search at the border crossing.

Also agree wouldn't hurt signing up for uspsa. Even for one year was $35-$50 pays off in one match and magazines 2 is a bonus.

I Travel with firearms to the states numerous times a year. It is so easy I even take one overnight to Detroit when we go to a Casino or dinner (not on the floor of course)

1) You Need an approved ATF form 6nia, Have all the firearms that you may potentially take over the year. (No chinese, no short Ar's or Short barrel shottys...There NFA and a no go)

2) Have a State issued hunting licence, that eliminates the need for an invite. I never have had an invite and my reason for taking them across shooting is using a local range. The Hunting license allow you to posses ammo legally.

3) When crossing the border. Box and trigger lock the guns and ammo. advise the CBP official right away, first words out of your mouth are I have legally secured firearms in the trunk.

4) if going by air advise the check in counter people what you have. If they seem unsure ask for a supervisor, they will flag the bag with the guns and may charge you an extra fee.

dont need the hunting license anymore as per the ATF. Invite is free and easy to get. you can be sent back to canada if you don't have an invite to prove where you are going. remember you have no right what so ever to be in the US so they can turn you back for what ever reason they want. the ATF form 6 allows you to be in possesion of ammunition and firearms in the US IF the Border agent allows you in. It doesn't mean you are allowed in. so what ever docs you can get to show them the better.
