Every year falls from tree stands account for close to 80% of all hunting injuries and fatalities.

Here is a GREAT idea for anyone to use.

Install your ladder stand/hang on stand.

Run an 3/4 inch rope from above your stand right to the ground. Attach another rope via a prussic knot. Now you can secure your safety harness rope to it. The prussic will slide easily up and down the safety line, but if you fall the prussic will NOT slide.

If you ever bought a Summit they supply a prussic knot allready tied.

By using this method you will never have to be disconnected from the tree.

All works fine if your not knocked unconsious.

Then a big ugly thing called suspension trauma plays in big time.

Always tether short, and always above yourself.

If you're worried enough to try that, I would recommend going to the local safety store and getting a self retracting lifeline, shock absorbing lanyard (depending on distance to ground) and body harness would be better.

Most people are NOT going to shell out $500 for rigging equipment....This is cheap will do the same thing.....safely.

As stated above keep the tether above you and slack short as possible.

Yes I do wear a 5 point harness. Shock absorbing lanyard isn't really neccesary if you keep tied off as high as you can reach. The max distance you will fall is 1 ft if your saftey line is short enough.

Prussic knot has been used by climbers for years. Not sure what your getting at here???

The beauty of the prussic is...if you fall it locks....then you can self repel down the safety line by simply reaching up and pulling down on the knot. It will still hold your weight but allow you to safely lower yourself to the ground.

If your tether to the prussic is short enough the chances of being knocked unconscious is very small.
