Hello, I'm looking to buy a tree stand and was sold on the ladder idea till I picked one up. Way too bulky to carry thru thick bush. So I want a light portable hang on unit and steps to get up there. I usually walk a couple of miles to my spots and toting on a quad is out. Who has experience with the various brands out there? what to look for and avoid etc. All opinions warmly received thanx.

I run 3 baby gorilla stands right now for comercial made ones.

They are great to pack in and out. If you have a tree with pegs in just take the satand in in the morning and out when your done. (If you don't want to leave it there)

Very solid and have held some big guys.

That said, they are small, if you are afraid of loosing your balance get a bigger stand than this.

If you want to move around a bit or sit all day, this is not the stand.

If you want to walk a far hike in and set up and take down in the same day, this stand might work for you.

I have a baby Gorilla hang on. It comes with back pack straps attached. I think the weight is around 15 or 16 lbs? Not sure if there are lighter ones out there or not. I am 5'9", 165lbs and I don't find it too cramped, but I do find I tend to end up with just my heels resting on the edge of the platform. Plenty sturdy for my weight. I usually sit in it for 4 hrs or less and I find it comfortable enough for this length of time. Any longer and I would want something a little bigger so I could stretch out a bit. For steps, if your getting the screw in type, get at least 9, 12 would be better ( they are sold in packs of 3). If your much bigger than me, you will probably want something bigger than the baby Gorilla.

I have a Summit climbing stand. Weight (18 pounds) and portability are probably comparable to a hang on c/w steps et al. Downsides are cost, and having trees with few branches, although I have yet to hunt an area where I couldn't find a decent tree.

I use a baby gorrilla stand... They are decent and pretty easy to get in and out... I use screw in steps to...

Some advice...

DON'T leave them out in the woods... I had my two River's Edge stands stolen last year!!! Friggen expensive learning lesson...

Cheers
Jay
