Hi, l'm looking at getting my 1st Tree Stand, any recomendations, something not real expensive, as l have read about owners having them stolen, do these locks work that l have been reading about.
Question, is this something that will fit in the trunk, back seat of my car.
How big are the boxes that they come in.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the info, l picked up a Stealth Deluxe tree stand from Bass Pro, padded seat, and arm rests, and safety harness $ 90.00, should do the job.

Size of the stand depends on what you want, how much you want to spend, how far you have to carry it, how long you want to stay in it and how comfortable you want it to be? They start around $75 and up. Locking your stand, using removable steps and removing your stand at the end of the season will make it harder for someone to steal it. There are a lot of good stands it's just a matter of choice.

Gorrilla is a good one. I recommend that you explore a removable ladder type climbing system over the screw in tree steps. Less work, less intrusive, and can be removed at the end of the hunt ensuring that you stand doesn't go missing in your abscence.

last september i bought 15' ladder stands for 60 bucks at gander mountain in port huron..... worked great and while it would suck if one went missing it wouldnt be the end of the world considering the price tag

If I were to buy new, I would get a Lone Wolf Alpha or Assault. Lightweight and well built. They cost more $$$, but I think it's worth it.

I currently use a Gorilla "Baby Gorilla" treestand. It works well. The seat is not that comfy for any extended period of time, though, but overall I'm happy with the stand. I got the stand (came with a chest harness) for about $100 new.

These portable stands will fit in just about any car.

I have a Gorilla I got for 75 bucks and another lightweight aluminum one that was more expensive. I almost fell out of a tree one time when my harness was not done up correctly. Never been up a tree since.

Make sure you get a good harness that you can do up in the dark.

I used one for the first time last fall during muzzleloader season. I felt very limited in the range of motion through which I could readily swing the rifle. There isn't much room to (re)position your feet. A larger stand platform might have been better. Can't say I felt 100% confortable standing either. I guess you get used to it.

I have a climbing stand that hasn't seen much use since I moved to the shortgrass prairie.

Nice thing about this stand is that you always take it with you, only weighs about 15-20lbs, and requires no steps or ladders. The platform is big enough for me to stand up and turn around on allowing me to shoot a bow or riflew everywhere except directly behind the tree.

Draw backs are: noisy to set up and get into, noisy to get out of and take down, and is too bulky to quietly carry in the bush (twigs hitting metal tubing makes a lot of noise).

I will be buying a hang-on stand for this fall as I need to be able to quietly enter and exit a great spot I found last year. The location is between two bedding areas only 100 yards apart, so quiet is essential.

I would make sure i got one with arm rests if i were you. It's hard to believe just how much more comfortable you stay in one as opposed to the models without.
.
Especially if you sit in it all day.Regards

I bought a tree ladder stand 15' from basspro last year for about $75... it came with a safety harness... It is actually a very good strong ladder/stand... How they can make something for that price/harness included is beyond me.... Works great though....

I have a hang on, and have not used it since I bought a Summit climber. The climber is light (18 pounds), quick to set up and use, and comfortable. So far, I have yet to hunt an area where I couldn't find a suitable tree, and I don't saw branches unless I absolutely have to.

The only drawbacks...price at about $400; and it is fairly large, so backpacking it quietly through thick stuff is cumbersome.

I just picked up a Cluimber for $161

I just picked up a API climbing tree stand at Bass Pro (Toronto) for $161. After putting it together I'm very impressed. It doesn't appear much different from the bigger dollar API stands. I haven't climbed with it yet or even sat in it. But it appears high quality and superb for the price. It was almost half the price of the next climber and weighs only 26lbs.

(of course going to bas Pro as usual is a pain in the a$$ as they could not find the stand in their warehouse. They eventually found it!)

I use an API Bowhunter-climbing stand. It is very quiet to climb with if you are careful. Very stable and strong. 18lbs.

The climbing stands are just so versatile...I don't know how I hunted without one. And it always comes home with me so I don't have to worry about it being stolen.

Find a hot-spot of activity, and set up for a hunt in minutes. Change trees for different wind conditions.
Change height, to suit cover. I've never seen more deer, than after I started using my climber. But it was $350.

And ALWAYS wear a safety belt. :)

I have a Summit Aluminum Climber.......very nice setup, light and quiet.

I also have a couple of Ladder stands.....they are nice to setup on known good locations.

It is nice to have options, and if I could only have one, I would pick the climber, it is just so versatile.

I've got a climber, a hang on and a ladder stand. Almost never use them as where I hunt it is VERY thick unless you stick to the field edges. Once you get up 10-15 feet in the thick stuff you can't see a damn thing. If you have a spot suited for them, they are great and allow for greater mobility when deer are spotted, plus they get your scent off the ground.

Come to think of it, I think I've only whacked 5-6 deer ever from a tree stand - I hunt mostly from the ground. I've found I like to be semi-mobile. My buddies hate me cause I always shoot deer in the toughest spots to drag them out from (swamps, etc where 4 wheelers and trucks just don't cut it) :D
