Here are a few pictures a customer asked me to post on his rifle which shows a typical conversion I do.

I thought it was a good idea so eveyone can see wat you can do with the Sako M995 or TRG-S rifle. These rifles are readily available and can be transformed in stages. Opening up the bolt face from a standard belted magnum can be easily done. If you already have a M995 with a good barrel, you can start the transformation almost immediately and in stages to distribute the cost over a couple of years until you finally have the rifle you want. Once the barrel is shot out, you can easily have a precision match grade barrel in almost any caliber installed. The action is very versatile and is of the 3 lug design (.750" dia.) as opposed to the Rem. 700 2 lug design (.700" dia.). As most of you know, the factory rifle uses the same bolt as the TRG 42 338 Lapua / 300 Win Mag. The receiver is similar but is lighter. This particular one started its transformation to a bit more dressed up version.

- TRG-S receiver was drilled and tapped for 8-40 screws (typical on todays custom guns and substantially stronger then the typical factory 6-48 screws)

- USOPTICS 20moa Rail - 6061 Al Machined not extruded

- TPS 30mm 7075 Al. Scope rings.

- Badger Ordance Tactical Bolt knob (nice touch when compared to the plastic TRG 42 knob.)

- Nightforce 5.5-22x56mm Scope

- Holland Clam Style Quick Discharge Brake on original 7mm STW barrel. 3 ports on top - 0 on bottom to avoid dirt upset for prone.

- Steel bottom metal with clip

- McMillan A5 Tactical Stock

Below is a close-up photo showing a Holland Brake installed on the original barrel. Taper to taper.

Here is a photo showing the 7mm STW on the left and the 338 Lapua on the right. As you can see the 7mm STW is a large cartridge and the Sako M995 / TRG-S magazine is one the largest on the market well suited for this long case or the 7mm RUM, 300 RUM, 338 RUM (or Edge) etc.... You can easily move to to a RUM from the std. belted 7mm or 300 Win Mag.

Dan, we have stock of steel bottom metal. PM me if you are interested.

For those of you who haven't seen one before, this is what the M995 or TRG-S looks like...... This one is a 30-378 Weatherby...another perfect candidate to be converted.

???

My question now is, why wouldn't you now go with a 338LM in Ackley/
Improved because at $165.00/box factor, you won't be shooting off the shelf ammo anyway. Make sure also, you're not going with the wrong twist and burning out your barrel with crazy fast 250gr bullets. The 300gr SMK are the answer to the question asked at the mile mark. If 1000meters is all you want to shoot them be the king but, with this caliber there is so much more to offer.

Glock-a-maniac - good questions.

The rifle was an all stock M995 in 7mm stw. My customer didn't like the original setup and wanted something he could expand on in the future. So he decided to keep the 7mm STW (low rounds) 26" barrel and just start building it towards the final gun, whatever that might be.

Not sure on how well it shots, but I suspect it shoots well. With Berger making the 168vld and 180 vld (very popular in the USA) it has pretty good reach.

The beauty of these guns is that the bolt can accommodate most casings especially with the large magazine. Keep in mind I think OAL is still to long with the 180gr Bergers reaching the factory throat....but keeping in mind the rifle was intended to be expanded on. I suspect if the barrel was shot out he would have gone with a match grade barrel etc....

I think economics were a factor in the way this rifle was modified. Lots of M995 TRG-S rifles out there which can be upgraded....

A person can also modify the larger capacity TRG 42 mag to fit into this rifle as well, if one so desires.
