tri pods (now with pics of out come)

i was thinking of a plan to set up a portable stand for a burner to melt up some ww..
then i started to multi task the idea..
a stand for a burner..then when its not in use i could drill it to hold my press.......then i had the idea to have the legs so i could add about 8 foot lengths to them to make a portablestand to hoist a moose in the air..
and to think i get payed at work to come up with these sometimes crazy and sometime great ideas:onCrack:

Hey Fog-
I built a tripod for my presses. Top of it is a square tubing 2" ID. Each press is bolted to a base with another square tube which slides into the tripod piece. Also bolted my trimmers to similar bases so they can be mounted to the tripod. Then built similar recievers and bolted them to the wall for storing the componants when not in use. I'll get ya some pics this weekend if you're interested.
Always thought that one of those RIGID tripods from a pipevice would work good......just have to customize or rebuild the top...

that would be great toget a pic or two..:D

www.ridgid.com/tools/pipe-vises-supports click on pipe vises. These fold up to about 4' x 12". You could use it with no mods, just weld a bracket to mount your press onto a piece of pipe then clamp it in the vice. You could also build your own, but the folding lower brace would be a major pain in the a$$. As for the square tube sliding into another square tube as Dmay mentioned, picture a trailer hitch and you know what he means. Princess auto sells the appropriate sized square tube for that.

The manner in which I linked the legs to the top leaves a little to be desired....under hard torque it will rock a bit.....I already welded the rear leg solid to help. Gotta re-engineer it....one of these days...

dmay..thanks for more idea,s and the pics, on the stand..make it universal to fit all the gadgets......:)
about how high is it dmay?

Fog.....good plan I think....my folding legs disappointed me somewhat, as stated, due to instability. And I've never folded the dam thing up to take it elsewhere anyway.:D Gonna redo it one of these days....one of these days....

Be sure to post us some pics when you get 'er done.

well i said i wanted to multi task this....so i made up a burner to add to it today.......i made the burner out of stainless steel..
the burner is of this type..

cant wait to put this togeather:D .....
i need a bit help or some info here though......can i use a stainless pot to melt lead?

well after a bit of work..i got er made up..its a lead melter/press holder..
the pot is made out of stainless 8 inch sch 80 pipe.i had to weld it up on a stand to get the burner o operate right..burner is threaded right through the bottom of the base pad..what is made out of half inch plate......the legs are 1 1/4 sch 80 pipe..
they are threaded into a few couplings weld on the bottom of base..
top to bottom is 30 inches..
i ran a box of 30-06 brass through it tonight ,with the small base dies..
worked like a charm..cant wait to try some big stuff:D ..

great thing about it...i can take it apart in minutes..and store it in a small space..
