Hey fellas I have a UTG tri rail on the norc m14. Before I installed it my rifle had a lot of National match tweeks, for one the hand guard was mounted to be attached to the front band and sanded down to leave a 1/8 " gap at the receiver and the stock so that the hand guard only touched at the front as per specs. My new UTG rail does not touch the stock but is pretty tight against the front of the receiver. My question is, should I grind the tri rail down a bit so that it does not touch the receiver or is this irrelevant due to the rails mounting piece that runs back and screws into the receiver.

I know I am being anal but I want it as accurate as possible and every little thing helps. Plus I dont want my #### to fall off. :D

not unless it is binding at the receiver due to length between where it butts against the gas system and the receiver. I've installed and used a great many of these now and the ONLY mod i've needed to perform is slight ovaling of the receiver bolt hole on one or two. By and large they are a drop in fit. the nature of any of these clamp on/bolt on handguards is that the minimalize barrel whip to a degree as they add rigidity to the barrel from receiver forward. The UTG's affect on whip may be minimal, but rails like the Ultimak have been known to improve rifle/barrel performance by the way the clamp and add rigidity.

Thanks Doc.
As the gun heats up wouldnt there be a shift in accuracy if the rail assembly is touching the receiver due to expansion?
